Data Security & Backup Service Required by SME

Hi, a friend of mine is changing their office network infrastructure. The have 5 - 10 employees and have been recently working off a VPO (Virtual Private Office) provider where they have been simply remote desktop(ing) in to a machine off site where they were even using stuff like Word, Outlook, etc. I thought this was a bit silly considering they had licenses for nearly all of the applications they used themselves for the desktop machines right in front of them.

They contacted me because they are sick and tired of using the VPO. They had to go through much hassle just to have a network printer available. It was absolutely ridiculous IMO. Now I can help them setup their office, but one thing they need form a 3rd party is data security and backup. I wouldn't imagine they are going to have huge amounts of data. Perhaps a backup of a fileshare, and perhaps nightly database dumps (again not a lot of data). However this data is important and needs to be available. A hard disk failing and them losing data just is not acceptable. At most half a day without access would be pushing it.

The office is based in Galway, but it doesn't really matter as long as the price/service is right. I see http://rocksolidsystems.ie is advertising heavily and from the site (which is terrible and doesn't instill confidence) they seem to offer what my mate is looking for. Does anyone have any refferal suggestions for companies.

My mate at the moment has several windows machines. He wants a Linux server for file and printer sharing. He doesn't have this machine as of yet, but it's basically what goes on this machine that he wants to be able to keep. He wants to be able to simply dump important stuff on that linux file server and have it automatically backup on to a 3rd party location/service provider where it can be restored from in the event of the linux server dying. He has his finger on the button and is about to purchase a small Dell server, which he wants to install linux on himself. Is this a good idea?
