    Speed camera assisted accidents,

for anyone who is certain that lots of cameras will reduce the accident rate, here is a bbc report that shows some accidents that were caused by drivers seeing a speed camera and crashing.

Just like telephone poles.....how many Irish people are either dead or in wheel chairs because of those big stupid brown poles at the side of every road.....

    Speed does not kill..

Speed in the wrong places in the wrong conditions kills...camera can not tell the weather.....

One driver in that clip was talking on her phone before crashing, another was doing over 120MPH. The camera made them all crash

Stupidity caused the crashes . not the camera. If your not competant enough to deal with the fact there is a camera on the side of the road (not to mention the fact that they are signposted) without crashing then you should'nt be driving.

If I see a duck at the side of the road and swerve into oncoming traffic, is that the ducks fault or mine?

Mobile cameras are not signposted, for some drivers the (in the UK) the sight of a camera has a similar effect as the sight of a sniper would on a soldier, causing panic and sometimes a dangerous overreaction.
The video proves this as the crashes shown were a direct overreaction to the driver seeing the camera!

All of which makes the point: if you don't want to be in an accident, don't speed. Driving within the speed limits is no guarantee of being safe, but driving too fast will increase your risk of being killed, or killing someone else.

    No it doesn't prove it.

It proves that people's concentration is lost when driving at high speeds and their ability to react safely is hugely diminished both in terms of braking distances and reaction times. If other factors are there to cause one to brake suddenly (Car braking ahead for example), the results are likely to be similar. If anything, it is irresponsible to blame the camera as one should not be over the limit in the first place.

I saw a crash at the M50 camera one night, the one near Tallaght, 2 Northern registered white vans, one buried up the arse of the other, right on the painted lines on the road to measure the speed. Obviously the first van saw the paint and jammed on and the other guy must have been taking a bite out of his breakfast roll and didn't see him in time and ran up his duster.
