    You could look at
    http://www.ronseal.ie/prodshowgroup.asp?shop=&groupID=1&prodid=39&groupname=Varnish&intext=ext

Please note I know nothing about it or if it will do the job you need it for. I have a new stairs to possibly do too. How much sanding would it need?

Light sanding,. teh stairs are new and pretty clean. I covered steps with cardboard to save sanding dirt off later. I got a mail of ronseal - will post here when i dig it out. thanks

Did a similar job myself recently. Used this - http://www.screwfix.com/prods/79340/Paint/Wood-Care/Ronseal-Quick-Dry-Varnish-Clear-Satin

Yop will probably be able to give you a steer too when he is on.

I used Ronseal Diamond Coat Clear Satin on Oak stairs. Worked a treat.

What or how much did you sand? Is sanding just to remove dirt? Might cover with cardboard as gunner25 says.I know nothing about sanding so if you coud elaborate would appreciate. Thanks

There was a carpet over it prior to this. So that came off and then took a sander with a fine grain to it. Took each back a little bit but did not go back too far. Red deal under the carpet which was nice, so really I just sanded the wear out of it.

We got a white oak stairs . We also used Ronseal Diamond Coat Clear Satin, in between the coats sand thoroughly. 5 coats later it looks the business.

Avns1s, How many coats did you apply. Also, what in between? Just a fine sanding? Sounds like it worked well so please advise on your mathods before I start. Cheers - fair play - Gunnner
