I’m looking to buy a micro system for my kitchen, and I was thinking of either this onkyo CS-515DAB or this Yamaha CRX-M170.

First of all does anybody have one of these systems and would you recommend either of them.

Secondly I was thinking of getting them on line from England (as sterling is pretty good at the mo) Can anyone recommend a reliable online store?

    Thanks all. :)

I wanna get a micro-stereo in the sales. I've only heard of these systems, and the reviews look amazing.

    So, can anyone help out?

    Hello Mr Kopf!

B-Stock 515's on ebay for a mite less than the usual price:

(Shipping to Dublin is 30 sterling on those, asked the store owner myself. Didn't get one as I thought it was a little extravagant for my needs).

Did you used to be on phishy?

OK, so, how outta date are these Onkyo babies? I saw them in Peats today. €570 or something.

Based on my previous research those Onkyo's are the latest and greatest. That Peats price is crazy, www.superfi.co.uk or audioaffair.co.uk stock 'em for less. Splurged on audio equipment from these sites just recently and found them both quite reliable. Ensure you get the speakers with it if you want them, as it's sometimes sold without.

    (Yup, ex-phishy here)

You sure? What's the difference between this and this?

A letter? You could ask the seller on e-bay. I think there might be different models for US or UK, or it could be a misprint...

    Check it:

What's your or anyone else's experience of buying b-stock versus going to those websites and getting new items there? I notice one of those websites are suggesting buying Tannoy speakers for £85. Story?

I bought an ex-demo turntable from audioaffair, no problems with it. Message the seller on e-bay and they'll tell you what it was used for, or what was originally wrong with it. Seems like a decent shop. You do get a warranty of a year.

Speakers are a matter of taste, to a large extent. I've seen good reviews of the stock speakers, but Tannoy F1's might be a step up? You could give it a demo in Peats, they might even have the Tannoys. If it's to be your primary music system, give it some consideration, but if you're sticking it in the kitchen, bedroom, jacks or pool-room, the stock stuff is probably fine.

A google shows this hi-fi geek saying the F1's are a good match.

    Some other dude saying same:

The dude says it's 'repackaged' and has upgraded software, and is packaged 'as new'. In effect, he says, it's the most up-to-date version, the difference being the CR and CS options.

He also has the Yamaha for sale. Choices, choices.

    The dude replied, saying
    hi there,
we are told they have usually either reboxed items or software updated. Therefore they are like slight factory seconds or minor refurbished units. Onkyo are so confident in the products that they still give you a 12 month warranty.
    many thanks
