iTunes and the curious tale of podcasts that go AWOL

    Hi all,

I have an iPod Classic 160GB, and using the latest version of iTunes 7.6.2

I sync up the iPod on my XP laptop, and use an external hard drive to hold all my music, and podcasts download to the default folder in My Documents.

I've noticed that podcasts that were previously downloaded and played fine and synced to my iPods, will randomly show up in iTunes with the ! in the circle, giving the message "The podcast could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" But you can't locate them, they've vanished. Deleted. Gone. No MP3's on my external hard drive do this, only podcasts.

The only workaround I've seen is to untick the rogue episode, unsubscribe and resubscribe and get the podcast again. Not really practical, as it can be pure random what podcasts get deleted.

Anything that can relieve me of this trouble?
