Sky+ to DVD recorder

I have got a philips DVD recorder and sky+. I tried recording some programs I had recorded on my sky+ box. I managed to do it no problem, but after about 3mins of recrding the sound goes. I can watch pre-recorded DVDs no problems, but even if I stop the recording and watch the rest of the program I still get no sound. The DVD recorder I have is a philips DVDR3305 with video plus.

Any help welcome, and does anyone know the best way to connect it?

    Thanks in advance.

It is not clear from your post whether the problem lies with your Sky+ recordings or with your DVD recorder. You seem to be implying the fault is with the DVD recorder but yet you mention watching the rest of the program but no sound after stopping recording - indicating the fault is with the Sky+ recording.
    How is it currently connected?
If the Sky+ output is fed through the DVD recorder before getting to your TV , then there is potentially a anticopying/macrovision issue which could possibly knock off the sound after a certain time.
Some programs are broadcast with this to prevent re-recording.
Different recoders may have different reactions to the macrovision, usually they just stop recording altogether, VCRS usually get varying brightness levels with picture distortion every few seconds, PC cards may stop or just repeat recording a loop of a few seconds.
If you remove the DVD recorder from the setup, does the sound play correctly?.
If that is fine but it happens on every recording then macrovision is unlikely and other possibilities are a loose scart cable, overheating recorder or damaged audio circuit on the DVD recorder
