    Hi all,

I finally splashed out and bought a PS3. Was in Dubai and bought the 40g gt5 prologue bundle for €310, yes 310 euro. Sweet i know! :D

Unpacked it all ok played gt 5 all ok.

Decided i need the HDMI cable to get the appropriate HD upscale.

Had a look at the back of my HDready Samsung TV. I bought this Tv 4 years ago. Shock Horror there is no HDMI component on the telly!.

What sort of a HD ready telly does not have a HDMI componet in it i hear u ask? I asked the same myself.

So i presume i must be some special "piece" for the telly to stick the HDMI cable into to make it a Proper HD telly.

    Thanks in advance

    Mark.

HD Ready does not mean its HD Ready. Its a common misconception.
Best thing to do when looking for "full" HD tv's is to check the max res (1080p). Failing that, just check the back for the HDMI slot(s).
There was a lot written about these "HD Ready" tv's a few years ago. A lot of people got duped.

I presume your TV has DVI, if so just go to Maplin and get yourself a HDMI to DVI-D monitor adaptor, there about €25

i got caught with this - the HDMI to DVI converter did not work for me - there is a 'HCAP' security on the PS3 - component cable worked no problem.

You mean HDCP? AFAIK that should work ok when using a HDMI-DVI adapter, the problem is that many/most older TVs without a HDMI port don't support HDCP. Some do though so OP you should check your manual. If your TV doesn't support HDCP over DVI you're best off going with the component cables mentioned above.

Can you plug the PS3 into a PC monitor? Or is that just crazy talk?

One would think you could ask the retailer who sold you this TV.
I'm sure you paid very good money for it. Regardless of the 4 years in between, you did not get what you paid for.

A HD ready TV doesn't need to have HDMI to be HD... Sure the 360 outputs HD and didn't have HDMI till earlier this year... Component is just as good. We've HD plasmas in work and they don't have HDMI... HD screens where around long before HDMI came out

Either way he paid for a HD tv n thats what he got... that is, providing it is HD..

HD Ready is a standard. If a TV has HD ready logo on it must support HDCP, this requires a digital connection, so either HDMI or DVI-D. If it doesn't have either of these then its not a HD ready tv.
