Printer troubles.

Hi, so I went to get myself a new printer, I have tried two or three different makes/models, HP, Epsom ect and I can't get any of them to load onto the computer. As soon as it gets to the part in the instalation process where it tells you to connect the printer to the computer I get an error message. I think this has something to do with USB drivers/ports/cable?

So heres the question, I think my computer only has USB 1.1 ports, would that stop the printer from connecting to it and the software downloading fully? Do I need to have a computer with USB 2.0 ports for it to instal? I am on windows XP btw if that makes any difference. Any ideas? I tried fully uninstalling and reinstalling about 10 times with each printer, didn't help. I can give more information but I'm not sure what to say, so if you need to know anything else to help just ask. Thanks a million in advance, its doing my head in.

I'm not sure about the technicalities involved or the reasoning behind it, but my sister had a similar-sounding problem trying to use a new MP3 player with her old bucket of a PC (that only had USB1).
A ~€20 upgrade later and everything worked perfectly.
I recommended she get a PCI card that provided USB2 ports... something like the ones listed here.
Even if it doesn't fix the problem, at least you'll get an upgrade to USB2 ;)

Do the printer manuals mention anything about USB2?

I think all the printers are normally backward compatible. COuld it be that the cable you are using is busted? Or that your usb port are disconnected? Can you run other external hardware through that particular usb port?
