GUI Handicap Category Competition Thingy..

    Hello again everyone!

Well isn't it wonderful to see yet another season starting up again! I was up at my local course today and was delighted to see a full carpark and packed competition sheet despite the weather!

Anyhoo, I was wondering if anyone can help me. Last year I remember the GUI were running this competition for anyone who wanted to get involved. You signed up for a small fee and over the course of the summer your top 6 scores or something like that went towards your points on one of four league tables depending which handicap category you belonged to. Then at the end of the season, the top 11 of each category were invited to the big finale in some fancy course and given the opportunity to get some instruction and tips before the big day.

I remember each time I logged into Golfnet there was a big ad for it.

So, are they doing the same this year? If so, where can I find out more??

    Thanks!

    And happy golfing!

No haven't seen this advertised anywhere - could be wrong but guessing that if was going ahead this year it would be up on the GUI website. Actually played in it 2 years ago (think it was based on your best 3 rounds during the summer), the couple of quid going to charity, etc, seemed like a good idea.

On a different point does anyone know if the O2 masters competitionis going ahead this year?

Do you remember the name of the competition?

What's the O2 thingy like? Is it a similar idea???

Sorry don't know the name of it - it was hard to miss in that it was all over the GUI/golfnet websites adn adverised in clubs, etc.

The O2 masters competition (coverage each week on the irish independent) was a fourball competition throughout the country with 2/3 from each venue going to a final and a few then qualifying to play abroad. Twas an opportunity to play some nice course for €20/€40

    That's the very one.

Oh well. It appears that it's not running again this year. What a shame! :(

I played in that O2 competition (O2 Golf Masters) last year and the year before. They play in some great courses - Druids Glen, Baltray, Carton House - and I've emailed them about this year but haven't got a reply. Given that it usually starts around this time of year, it doesn't look good. O2 used to be a sponsor for the European Open too - maybe because that's no longer in Ireland, they've pulled back completely from sponsoring golf.

Is that the o2 / Irish Independent competition? Played in one of those last year and it was great. Hopefully it does run again, although looking unlikely. Not seen anything in the Indo about it yet.

Yeah, that's the one. Might send an email to the Indo - they'll know the story

Here's what O2 emailed me when I asked them about it:

..at this moment in time this office has no information regarding the O2/Irish Independent All-Ireland Golf Competition. May I suggest you keep an eye on the golfing fixtures or try searching a search engine for further details...

    Not looking good then....
