Crackly sound in iTunes

As a test I then added the music from Windows Media library into iTunes and got the same crackly sound which makes me think its a setting in iTunes. I don't have sound enhancer or sound check enabled which from an internet search were recommended to be turned off. Anyone got any other suggestions? Hope this is the right place to post this.
