so i was in Dublin yesterday and i walked past the window of a small book shop and to my amazement i seen a hard back version of David Simons "The Corner". as u can well imagine i was over the moon when i seen this and i took myself into the shop to purchase this little treat for myself. there was somebody talking to the shop owner so i had a little browse around the shop. after a minute or 2 the guy talking to the owner left, so i gleefully marched over to the counter to ask for the copy of the Corner that was in the window and with that the owner informed me that he had sold the last copy to the guy who had just left the store. man i was gutted, but i asked the owner had he any other books by the very talented Mr Simon and he handed me "Homicde: A Year............" i've only read a handful of pages so far but i can honestly say i won't be puttin this one down for a very long time. the real life Jay Landsman is exactly like the character potrayed in the show and theres loads more little insight's to where the David came up with some of the characters and story lines for the show.

You just reminded me to watch 'The Corner'. Thanks for the tip on the Homicide book.

Haven't read any of Simon's book but I would be interested in picking up a copy of HLOTS & The Corner. In what shop did you buy HLOTS ?

can't remember the name of it, it was somewhere between the Dail and Stephens Green. the shop only stocks crime novels. its might have "crime" in the name of the shop. hope that narrows it down for ya.

Bought both recently but haven't started either. I'm expecting quality stuff but I'm approaching it to see how it compares to H:LotS the show - if you haven't watched it, then I demand you do! Go forth and worship the mighty Pembleton!

I started on H:Lots after The Wire ended and I'm now up to Season 4 (Season 2 is very short with just four episodes ).
Despite being set in the same Baltimore homicide unit as the Wire it's a very different show.
Andre Braugher (Pembleton) is an over-actor though imho.
