Nokia N95 8G

Just bought an N95 8G a couple of days ago. Brilliant phone, lots of features, menus fairly self explanatory, good service etc etc.
The question I have is this "What the hell is the barcode reader about/for?"
Can't make head nor tail of it.

the point of it really being that companies can encode contact information such as their phone numbers, addresses and website in one small picture and the phone can read it and then either call the number, show you the address on the built in map and how to get there using the built in gps or go to the website using the built in browser, all in the space of seconds, big thing in japan, could certainly see it catching on over here, already seeing plenty of posters on other forums using these barcodes as their avatars and encoding info in them.
