Takes a pinch of this brown powder and puts it on my hand a tells me to sniff it:confused: so up it went. Turns out it was sniffing tobacco, never knew there was such a thing. It was legit had a heath warning on the packet the whole lot.

As a Korean I object to that :D me and my sister used to do me granny's snuff when we were nippers, had no idea what it was until recently. Might explain why I took to smoking so quickly now I think of it

Was that not in bad taste mate??
Considering if I remember rightly it was a Coke ball in her champers that caused it??

I believe snuff was sneakily banned here when the smoking ban came in.

Pretty much every corner shop and bar used to stock some.... but not anymore.

I didn't know you could sniff snuff. In Scandinavia they rub it on their gums.

    Snus,

They dont rub it into thir gums. They either roll it into a ball and place it under their top lip, or you can get it in a mini tea bag and place it under your lip but it is spat out after half an hour or so, - Its quite nice actually -

    Snuff is stupid ass hell.

    Wrecks your nose.

I've seen them rub it in. It is so funny when a scandinavian smiles and their teeth look all black.

My granda used to take this when I was little (about 9-10 I think)...I asked him for some one time and he wouldn't give it to me...so I nicked some when no-one was looking and ran off to the garden to snort it....bastarding thing burnt the nose off me (it was mentholated) at first but then I got a nice headrush :pac:
I think it was the first drug I ever took (apart from chocolate)...the urge never came on me to take snuff again, couldn't really see the point. Smoking seemed to be where it was at so I took that up instead...
Don't know if you can even get snuff any more...OP that was prolly heroin your mate's bro gave you...they give it to you free at first to get you hooked...well that's what all the urban myths say

:D That's it...and they roll you your first joint when they wait outside schoolyards for the kids. One puff and you'll be a crackhead by morning. They were still teaching that crap when I was in school ten years ago

    Regular nicotine fix or what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,978 ✭✭✭GhostInTheRuins

I tried snuff for the first time about 2 months ago. At a house party and someone whipped out a tin of it. The stuff he had was minty, if you did enough you'd get lightheaded. It wasn't bad actually, except for all the brown gunk you cough up the next day :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,148 ✭✭✭✭KnifeWRENCH

I had no idea snuff was still around...I thought it was a ye olde ireland thing.
Never knew anyone who took it.
My uncle used to smoke a pipe though, I always thought that was odd in this day and age.

Funny you should say that. Ive only seen the stuff twice, and once was at a gaff party were these Swede birds lived. Is it a tradition?

Anyway they got me to take a few sniffs off fit, and let a lump dissolve on m upper gums.

    Utterly pointless sh1te.

But then again, so is smoking tobacco.

Snuff makes ytou sneeze a lot, so it's popular with people working in dusty enviroment - miners for example. It works great to clear your nose. I also alwyas bring some from Poland for a mate who is a carpenter - it works for him as well.

Apart from that there is little point using it, it certainly won't replace cigarettes for a tobacco fix.

38.—(1) It shall be an offence for a person to sell cigarettes by
retail other than in a packet containing not less than 20 cigarettes.
    (2) It shall be an offence for a person to manufacture, import,
supply, sell or invite an offer to purchase an oral smokeless tobacco product.

I think snuff fell under that as well... as I haven't seen it behind the bars in pubs since then.

    [edit] Legal issues
Oral snuff, in the form of dipping tobacco and snus is banned from all countries of the European Union, except Sweden, where the sale of snuff is legal. [1].

In spite of legal issues, snuff is readily available over the counter in most European tobacco shops. In Britain, snuff is much cheaper than cigarettes and other tobacco products as it is tax exempt, however for duty free reasons snuff still carries the same limitations as tobacco products.

So it seems the chewy mouthy stuff is illegal, but not the snorty stuff?

And it's tax exempt in Britain? Must be dirt cheap!
