Since i changed from Xp to vista 32bit i cant use my tv in pc mode. keep getting mode not supported error. Im using a ati HD graphics card which supports vista, i downloaded the latest drivers and works fine using my monitor etc but cant get the tv working.

Strangely when the computer is off, and with the tv on pc mode, the windows logo appears on the tv as normal but just before the welcome screen disappears and mode not supported errors appears.

The option for a second monitor doesn't appear in the options anymore which is a little worrying....? Is It anything to do with vista 32bit?

some advice would be great, otherwise going to have to switch back to Xp

Set your pc res to 720x576 ,i think thats standard tv pal, resolution, u r prbly using too high res for the tv,on some hdtvs, theres only 3 pc resolutions supported,1024x768, read tv manual for ,its specs ,is it a hdtv, is it 1080, or 720.if you use too high a resolution you can actually damage the tv,even a hdtv, be real careful.post the tv model here.

not the case, cause the optimum setting in the manual is 1360 X 768. I have had this working perfectly before cant see why it wont know. why as the option to add a second monitor disappeared in the display settings? and the tv is samsung LE32M8

How are you connecting your TV to the PC? VGA or a DVI-HDMI cable? I find that for best results the PC needs to "find" the TV when you plug it in, then the graphics card software will offer the supported resolutions. It definately sounds like it's resolution related seeing as the boot up windows logo is displayed. You should try with a smaller resolution as suggested above, even if the one you're currently on used to work on XP.

connect thru vga,or dvi, then hdmi ,set res to 720x576.on pc.download P
Powerstrip prog ,it allows you to set up custom res,for pc or tv, note if resolution is not supported on tv you could damage it.
WHAT DOES the manual say re tv ,resolutions avaidable, use standard hd resolution, google hd tv resolution 720 1080.

Yup, you haven't installed the latest driver for your graphics card. If you've just installed Vista, that will be the reason. Vista and XP normally install standard graphic adaptor by default to avoid any problems with displays when installing.

powerstrip adds extra options to display propertys,to allow you to create your own reso9lutions at will, and change refresh rate, 4 now re, tv stay with 60mhz refresh rate, try 720x576 1st.the icon just shows its installed/loaded into memory.try 1024x768 if its listed in your tv manual.no pint clicking icon, look for new tv options, you have to set tv out to pal,B not ntsc.
I,M USING SDTV TV ,HAD TO USE POWERSTRIP TO SET RES from laptop, rca out, tv out, pal,B ,720X576 RESOLUTION,THE PICTURE IS PERFECT, on my sdtv ,standard tv.

you can also install a generic svga graphic driver in winxp that works on ANY GRAPHICS CARD, go 2 control panel add hardware, etc scroll thru cards listed til you find standard svga driver/adaptor, dont know if vista has this option.
SOME companys have dodgey drivers 4vista,cos they want you 2go out buy a brand new vista compliant card.how old is your card, what model tv have you got.

Im going to back up and do a clean install for vista. I just did a upgrade originally. Just want some advice for the backup.

Should i completely un-install all the drivers/software for the card, and remove it from the board also? Is this the best thing to do and install then after the reboot?

This have been going on a long time now, i would love to get it sorted, advice much appreciated.

if you are installing vista leave in the card.it will aurtomatically install drivers for the card ,dont format c: hardrive ,if you have any data, mp3s.photos you want to hold on to.YOU can install the latest drivers ,after vista is installed ,download them from ati website.there may be new vista drivers for that card, install sp1 for vista be4 you install new drivers.

if you are using a vista restore cd ,drive will be formatted ,all data removed,if you are doing a vista os install ,i think you have a choice ,format the drive,or leave as is ,usual folder is c:\ windows ,or c:\ vista.i,ve never installed vista.i think the website is called ati.com , go to support europe, drivers ,or similar link.

I reinstalled vista doing a clean install, left the card in and it still wont detect it. Retried the drivers and still wont work. removed and installed the card again, on reboot the system doesnt detect new card???

I dont get it. Its vista certifed. Worked perfect with Xp. Ati told me it should be installed in a vista clean install (which i just did) and not a upgrade from Xp which i originally done. Saying that tough the card displays on the monitor and tv but both the same screen still cant have multiple monitors has the computer is not detecting it! im going mad here, cant see what im doing wrong, and out of ideas
