    Hi all,

    We expect to be announcing full details on the International Poker Open 2008 within the next month or so;

I can tell you that the buy-in will be the same (€150), it will be in Dublin and it will be over the course of a weekend in October....

If you would like to help us promote the tournament over the course of the next six months then please send an email to Stephen(at)pokerireland.ie or Derek(at)pokerireland.ie

We are asking for players to either
    (a) pre-register for the tournament (we will email you directly once we have everything confirmed for the event)
    (b) pre-register and ask for a number of flyers (either 10 or 50 flyers - and posters too, if you can put them up in your workplace etc) to be sent to your home address
    (c) help us to generate ideas about how we can publicise the event in your local area....we welcome all suggestions.

    Many thanks,
    Stephen Mc Lean.

I will be playing although would like to see buy in increased to 250/300.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,771 ✭✭✭carfax

I think everyone will be happy with the standard of dealers, value for money etc if things go to plan and we get the sponsor we want at this moment in time (they've put forward some really great ideas so hopefully from here its just a matter of signing on the dotted line)...

We have to keep the buy-in to €150, its a no-brainer really....We can't start tinkering with the one thing that we got right last year :D....And that is what attracted so many of the overseas players

Any ideas as regards unique/new ways to promote the tournament (preferably to the main stream media)....

Also; I am looking to build on our database of players that want/get flyers sent out to them on a regular basis in order to help us promote this tournament....If you don't regularly get our flyers or posters and you would like to please send an email.

This tourney is a great chance for those who aren't already on it of course to get their name onto the Hendonmob database! Also €250 with inflation n all that.

I'd agree with this, 250 seems reasonable - especially for people travelling from afar who'll be spending at least this much on transport and accom

Best of luck with it stephen.

I'm in, I really want that coveted hendon mob spot. Is there two day ones this year in the end Stephen?

    yeah, this

I think you'd be surprised how much a 100 euro increase would decrease the field and isn't having the insanely big field the whole point of this tournament?

by the time its on the recession will have kicked in and we will be all eating baked beans on toast and cursing our negative equity....

perhaps a 50 euro buy in with 5 euro sit n gos beforehand.

tip lock the doors until after the 2nd offical dinner announcement , to stop players leaving not knoing you were only messing with the 1st announcement......jeeze i thought the clamper had a zany sense of humour

    miserable so and so.

This was a great event last year. I hope there is over 2000 at this years. Cheer up Mr. half empty.

Whenever the recession comes itll rejuvinate the poker boom, at the moment people have too much spare money, they can use it to go enjoy themselves, when they dont have enough for that theyll have to gamble to get it.

How about €20/€25 satellites. This would appeal to the type of players you are looking for, and could generate an Irish "Moneymaker effect" (airgead déanta effect? ;)). More importantly it would generate good marketing for the event.

    Sorry Mr Ian,
I had a long think about this and you are correct, I'm too gloomy about things. I'll put the credit union on red alert for this event.....I went out too early last year to remember much, was it good? I was so shell shocked when I got knocked out I walked the wrong way up the stillorgan dual carraigeway for miles . It's a cruel game you know Mr Ian very cruel.

€20 satellites would really attract alot more interest. it would also appeal to not only the broke student players;):D that attended the game in the regency but also to the players who fancy trying their hand at getting in cheap. Even if that doesnt work out for them they will still prob just pay up the €150

Will def be playing this again. FWIW the reg should remain at 150 as i think a lot of players will not play if its increased by 100/150 quid

Stephen, you could denote portion to charity and run it as a people in need event, maybe try and get buyin from RTE.. Mainstream media is a toughie as it is just not a mainstream product. If you want to get it in the press then it has to have a mainstream message to go with it.
Celebs can do that or massive prizepools (but even that is a toughie).

Cant wait for this again, pretty sure I can guarantee a group of 10 of us coming over again from Nottingham to play like donkeys.

As for promotion, have you thought about getting in touch with Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham? They might run some sattelites for it? They have an average of 100 players Tuesday through Sunday and if your quick theyre hosting the Norwegian Championships next week, 500 Norwegians playing a £500 freezeout. Might be worth sending a pile of leaflets and a nice covering letter?

WE WPOULD BE SURPRISED IF OUR SPONSOR WOULD HAVE SIGNED BY THEN BUT YOU NEVER KNOW
WE COULD DO A COVER "LETTER OF INTEREST" TYPE OF THING AND MAYBE PICK UP A RING LEADER THAT PEOPLE WOULD GET THE MESSAGE FROM ONCE ITS PROPERLY ANNOUNCED

IF YOU KNOW WHO TO SEND THIS TO, WE WOULD APPRECIATE A HEADS UP ON IT

    THANKS

Cheers for that.....Hopefully this year's tournament will be bigger and better....We're not taking anything for granted (even though we hope that every player from last year plays again) so we will be out and about (around the UK and Europe) to a good few of the major festivals between now and October.

Whatever you do, can you please please please make sure the sponsor isn't Bodog! Easier to rob from a bank vault, than to get your own money back from that crowd of chancers.

WOW. Someone openly admitting that RUGBY took precedence over POKER

I am utterly amazed that nobody picked up on this

I am going for a lie down now, shocked i am

in my defence i'd bought the rugby tickets a looong time before this was even announced- was a tough call between the 2, i can tell you, but in the end was fully justified as watching France beat New zealand was just priceless!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,317 ✭✭✭The Clamper

OK, IN FAIRNESS, IF I HAD THAT CHOICE I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE OPTED FOR THE RUG........NOW HOLD ON A MINUTE

RUGBY OVER POKER? NOW LET ME SEE......

OF COURSE ITS NOT JUST ANY OLD RUGBY AND THE TICKETS WERE BOUGHT A LONG TIME PRIOR.........

STILL A HARD CHOICE,, IF FLIGHTS WERE BOUGHT TOO, THEN I WOULD GO FOR THE RUGBY,,,,,,,THERE I SAID IT

OK, SO, ITS A LET OFF THIS TIME BUDDY

THIS YEAR ITS BEEN ANNOUNCED, IPO-2008 WIL BE OCTOBER, PROBABLY MOST LIKELY IN THE 1ST HALF OF THE MONTH, OVER A WEEKEND

SO DONT GO BOOKING FOOTY AND START SAVING THE €150 STRAIGHT AWAY

WE WILL HAVE SOME REG OPEN SHORTLY, WITH INCENTIVES FOR EARLY REGISTERED PLAYERS

    HERE IS A TIP 4 U

THIS EVENT WILL BE FULL,,,,THAT IS SERIOUS,,,LAST YEAR SOME PLAYERS THAT LEFT IT TIL THE LAST MINUTE WERE DISAPPOINTED

WHEN THIS IS FULL, THATS IT, A RESERVE LIST COULD BE CREATED IN CASE SOME PLAYERS DROP OUT THROUGH ILLNESS OR SOMETHING BUT I WOULDNT BE HOLDING OUT TO GET ON IT

SOON AS ITS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED, MY SUGGESTION IS THAT YOU GET IN THERE BUDDY, THERE ARE A LOT OF OVERSEAS PLAYERS CHOMPING AT THE BITT TO GET THE DETAILS ON HOW TO REGISTER, REGISTRATIONS WILL FLOOD IN, I MEAN IT

    BOOK EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT
