    hi guys.

heard from a dealer that panasonic are bringing back the 5 year guarantee on tvs from 1st may.

have been quoted €1299 for the new 42" pv80 (hd ready) and €1699 for py80 (full hd). (2008 models)

    interested in the pv80 myself.

any one thinking of buying might be as well to hold off till may 1st

    regards

Read that on AVforums also in the last few days. Is it coming back to stores in Ireland again like last year or is it UK only?

5yr guarantee even with reliable brand like Panasonic is not to be sneezed at.

was going to buy pv70 in soundstore tralee on saturday-€999 sale price

rang local panny dealer to see would he match price. said he had no pv70 left and then gave me pv80 prices and that said 5 year guarantee back on from may 1st.

rang soundstore to see about if they had any pv80. the salesman said the pv70 was the new model!!

    just to add

almost took the plunge on the pv70 last december when 5 year guarantee was on last.

prices quoted were pv70-€1499. py70-€1699 inc guarantee.

in january sale pv70 dropped to €1299 without guarantee. not sure about py70.

so 2008 model pv80+ 5 year guarantee same price as old pv70, no guarantee in jan sale.

Could someone give more details on this 5 year guarantee from Panasonic?

    1) When shops in Eire are selling old Panasonic Plasmas are these covered or is it only for new models?

    2) Is it a collect and return service from Panasonic or must u return it to the shop?

    3) Is the guarantee based on the date of the receipt you get from the shop as Panasonic seem to turn off and on this guarantee regularly. Maybe you need to get a separate document from the shop on purchase?

    4) Will shops like Currys, Harvey Normans still try and flog you another warranty on top.

    5) Today, 1st May, Harvery Norman were offering a free Panasonic Digital Camera worth 200 euro with a Panasonic Plasma. I asked about the 5 year guarantee and they said i could get the guarantee instead of the free Camera?

only the new models (pv80, py80 etc)

    2) Is it a collect and return service from Panasonic or must u return it to the shop?

not too sure on that, i'll have to double check and let you know

you fill out a claim form with your date of purchase as per your receipt ad they send you out a confirmation letter.

    4) Will shops like Currys, Harvey Normans still try and flog you another warranty on top.

they are obliged to give the panny 5 year but you never know if they might try and say theirs is better etc.

that free camera isnt an official panasonic thing so maybe they give you a free camera and sell you their extended warranty as they prob make more money with the extended warranty than those cameras cost!

I'm looking at buying the new PANASONIC TH46PZ85 46 INCH PLASMA TV.
Checking it out on some websites and the best value seems to be on www.1staudiovisual.co.uk at a price of €1756. Looks like the job alright but since this company's in England and it's on a website, does the same 5 year guarantee still come with it?

i could be wrong here, but I THINK website based stores don't get the 5 year. because for the 5 year you're meant to get "a demonstration of the Viera experience in store". and even if they did give you the forms, you would get a UK claim form, but with an Irish address it would get rejected.
