Using a US Mac mini in Ireland

    Hi,

I'v been looking for a suitable computer for the kids for a while now and I decided on a Mac mini. My wife is currently in New York and is going to bring one back with her.

My question is, will I need a power convertor to run it safely? The Apple site says the following:
    • Line voltage: 100-240V AC
    • Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz, single phase
    • Maximum continuous power: 110W
Will I just need a simple plug adaptor?

    Regards,

    cbaoth

+1 on that. I bought a mini in San Fran and use it happily in Ireland with a plug adapter.

Yes, you can install XP or Vista on a Mini same way as on any compatible Mac using Boot camp or Parallels.

I don't know what "driver" you are asking about but a Mac Mini is a computer in a small computer size so as such it is fully functional and working for it's ports, disc reading/burning etc, if that is what you mean.

The Boot Camp Setup Assistant creates a CD which contains drivers for all the devices in the Mac, i.e. WiFi, Bluetooth, Audio and graphics etc. so it's all pretty much covered.

Not any more. You can only install Boot Camp if you have Leopard and the drivers are on the Leopard DVD. It still uses the Boot Camp Setup Assistant to partition your drive etc.

If it's a new Mac, it'll come pre-installed with Leopard, complete with Boot Camp, so it shouldn't be an issue. :)

if your installing vista it should install drivers for everything , if your using xp drivers maybe a problem.

Well if you've ever changed a plug before, you can snip of the US plug and replace it with a UK/IE 13 amp beasty

Of the 6(!) mac mini's we have, 4 have been cut and the remainder have been left alone. No prized for guessing which country they were bought in(!)

    All work fine

P.S. One of mini's had it's hard disk go blarghhhhhh - mactivate swapped it out under warranty too... changing out hard drives is easy enough to do, but if the machine is under warranty why stress yourself ;-) ohh *do* check the forum for people's experiences with repair centers if you are unfortunate enough to have to use one
