Ventrilo Question

Im with Irish Broadband on an unlimited download cap package; but I'm convinced they restrict VoIP ports.

I'm trying to get ventrilo running and I've opened the necessary ports and added it to all of the necessary whitelists. But when I try to connect to any vent server it either never goes through, or on extremely joyous occassions I actually get into a server, but the latency/ping is above 13,000 ms So that has me completely baffled.

I can use Voice Chat in games fine (for example Counterstrike or team Fortress) and it works brilliantly. If I want to talk to someone in the USA I have to ask them if we can talk about it over a round of Zombie Mod or Gungame ffs.

I am running over the assumption thats due to the voice chat being carried across on a recognized gaming port (exactly which I am unaware)

My question is: is it possible to re-route my ventrilo connection through the working port with some networking wizardy that I am presently unaware of?

    Many thanks.
