Setting yahoo mail up in Outlook, help

Im trying to set a yahoo.ie webmail account up in Outlook.
Ive managed to get it receiving the emails from the webmail, but Outlook wont send mails out.

The outbox said 5mails that i tried sending,,, but then there was only 1 of my 5 test mails in the outbox and the others arent in the inbox or showing up as sent,,, where did these go?

The error message i get is: "your client does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing your encryption method"......

I have enabled pop format in the yahoo webmail account options.
Under the outgoing swerver settings in outlook i put
    smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk (should this be .ie)
Ive picked SSL in the drop down box and i tried both port 465 and 587 which i got off the webmail pop settings.

The 1 thing i couldnt find was the option "use authentification" which according to the webmail instructions i should have ticked this beside the outgoing server in Outlook, but i didnt see it anywhere.

Also, to point out, password authenification isnt required.

    Anyone got any ideas?

I tought you needed a yahoo plus account to use pop for yahoo mail.

I dont think so????? Does the fact that emails are coming in mean you dont need a plus account, would a normal yahoo allow incomming emails anyway?

I use a program called YPops! to collect my Yahoo Mail account into Outlook. and yes it will allow you to send out emails aswell. The exe runs on startup and just sits in the system tray. http://ypopsemail.com/

Install the program and follow the instructions:

    1. Select Tools -> Email accounts from the main menu
    2. Select Add a new email account and click o*n Next
    3. Select POP3 as the Server Type. Click Next
    4. Enter your username and full Yahoo! email address under 'User Information'
    5. Enter your Yahoo! Login id and password under 'Logon Information'
    6. Enter '127.0.0.1' as your Incoming mail server
    7. Enter '127.0.0.1' as the SMTP server as your outgoing mail server
    8. Click on the More Settings button and select the Advanced tab
    9. Increase the Server Timeout to 'Long' (10 minutes)
    10. Select the Outgoing Server tab
    11. Enable "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication". Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
    12. Click Ok to close the More Settings dialog
    13. Click Next and then Finish

Perhaps .ies are different to .coms which definitely need a plus account to use POP. If you can receive it's a good sign. :)

If mail is coming in but not going it it could be that your isp has relaying blocked. Who is your isp?

Hiya, cheers for the advice, its not my computer and i'd rather not go putting other programs on it if possible.

If i select "use same settings as incomming server" in outlooks settings it puts the receiving port to 995 and it still wont send emails. Should that setting be ticked in outlook do you know cause if i tick it, it grey's out the sending server settings like SSl, etc...

Surely Outlook should just send it without the need for another helping program?

My Isp is Net1,,,, i use hotmail and Outlook Express on my own computer and that works grand. Its just the yahoo im setting up on the other persons laptop that wont work.

    It receives no problem.

Does anyone know where the "my outgoing server requires authentification" option is in Outlook?

Have a look in Outlook Express mail account settings and check what outgoing mail server OE is using. Whatever server is entered there, put that setting in Outlook's outgoing mail server section and see if it works.

What version of Outlook have you? Click Help and the About Microsoft Outlook and it'll tell you.

I'm using 2003 and in that version you'd need to go to edit the account in question, click on the More Settings button and then click on the Outgoing Server tab.

Edit: I'm pretty sure it's in the same place for Outlook 2007, although I don't have a copy of that to hand to check.

Theres 2 seperate computers, 1 with hotmail and Outlook Express.
    1 with yahoo and Outlook

I dont want to put yahoo in my OE even just to try it as i dont want the other persons folders, etc.. coming into my OE.
Yeah that sounds right,,, i go onto more settings, outgoing server but it doesnt have a "server requires authenification" option?

I'm not saying to put the Yahoo settings into OE, I'm saying to check what outgoing server you have set in OE and apply that setting in Outlook for the Yahoo account. Your isp may have it set up that mail sent from their network must be relayed through their mail servers and won't let you send directly to Yahoo.
