The statement said that the action would also effectively shut down much of the North Sea's oil and gas production, a large proportion of which goes through Grangemouth, causing supplies to dry up and leading to shortages across Scotland and the north of England.
Grangemouth supplies Scotland, Cumbria, Northumberland and parts of Yorkshire.

What this does not say is that ALL our imported gas, which is c 90% of total, comes from a pipeline in Scotland so I cant see our supplies being un-affected if this bites

Situations like this put a lot of pressure on the government to push ahead developments in Ireland where large storage facilities are planned to be built (allowing large gas tankers to bring us gas from anywhere in the world). Not agreeable for the locals who have a NIMBY attitude, but if you go to places like the Orkney's or Shetland, you will see how these types of facilities provide crucial employment and very high skills in areas with high levels of emigration.

kinda goes to show that it's not only finding new oil or gas reserves - it's also the refining of the product that's going to screw us end of pipers! hopefully it'll give the renewable energy solutions a boost
