    I was snooping about my imac's system.log today and came across the following repeated hundreds of times:

    Apr 19 12:02:10 XX-computer launchd: getty repeating too quickly on port /dev/fax, sleeping
    Apr 19 12:02:41 XX-computer launchd: getty repeating too quickly on port /dev/fax, sleeping
    Apr 19 12:03:12 XX-computer launchd: getty repeating too quickly on port /dev/fax, sleeping
    Apr 19 12:03:43 XX-computer launchd: getty repeating too quickly on port /dev/fax, sleeping
    Apr 19 12:04:14 XX-computer launchd: getty repeating too quickly on port /dev/fax, sleeping

    XX is the name of my computer. Should I worry? I have a WD external hard drive attached via the Firewire.

    Are you on Tiger?

    Go to System Prefs > Print & Fax > Faxing

    Is the box "Receive faxes on this computer" checked? If so uncheck it.

    Yes, I'm on Tiger.

    Have done and will check the log again tomorrow.
