Looks like I've major problem here! I took an XDcard from a camera and put it in the card reader in the PC and an error message popped up so I ejected the card. I then put the card back into the camera and when it displayed 'no images' I started getting worried.

I then put the card into the card reader on my laptop. When I tried to open the file with pictures in it there was nothing there! But when I right click on the card and go into properties it tells me there's 380MB on the card so obviously there's something there! Please please please does anyone know how to get them back? There's a lot of very important pics on that card!!

    Hello Ianwalsh2,

    1) Don't panic.

    2) Download this software (It's free), follow the instructions to see if it can restore your photos.

    http://www.z-a-recovery.com/digital-image-recovery.htm

    3) ZAR should do the trick. If it doesn't: maybe give this a go:

    http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/index.htm

It'll show you the pictures if it can restore them but then you'll have to buy the software to fully restore them.

    4) Good Luck!

Also recuva is a good free recovery tool.

First of all thanks for all the replies guys. It looked like that ZAR program had worked. Until I opened up the pictures and most of them were all mixed up like the one attached. I am in so much sh1t.

I've never used ZAR, did it write to space on the PC or on the memory cad?

It saved them all in a file on the PC.

Well at least the originals are untouched.

There are companies that do data recovery, although they are expensive. If you want, post it to me and I'll take a look at recovering it. A non technical person to keep 'trying' things may make it worse. Offer stands anyway, just PM me.

Thanks for the offer Bren2002 but there's no need. It's actually not my camera, it was one my mother had borrowed and thank god the pics which had been on it before she borrowed it had been backed up. So we only lost what she had taken (some of which I managed to get back using ZAR). Thanks for all the help anyhoo.
