Renault Collection For Sale--maybe Not

Many people have contacted me over the last couple of days complementing my collection of Renaults----and telling me that I am mad to dipose of such a unique collection. I have made a decision and here is both the outcome and hopefully a result!
The main lesson that I have learned is that you buy the cars that you are interested in---not what people tell you ,that you should.
I bought a 16, because everybody in Renault Circles said it was the one to have.
I have decided that I shall keep the rest and just sell the 16. It is older than me and I havn't bonded(if that makes sence)with it. The other cars are of my time. I had FUEGOS when I was 20. I grew up in the back of an 18.
The 15 I just fell for the minute I saw it!!!!
There is no doubt that the 16 is a fabulous car,,and if you are as passionate about Renaults(or and other car for that mater)as I am,I think that over a period of time you do bond with a car. My biggest problem is a problem that when you have a collection of cars, which one do you bring out?
The more you drive a particular car,the more you appreciate it.
I bought the 15 about 3 years ago from a guy in the UK Renault Club near CREWE. I went over ,got into a 26 year old Renault and drove it all the way HOME WITHOUT A HITCH--IN THE DARK...Now that is how to bond with a Classic car. How I even contemplated selling this car over the last week is beyond me. The Fuego I just love the look of. The 18 I also bought a couple of weeks ago from Richard that I bought the 15 from. I drove it to work all this week. Its perfect--and fast. The 16 is so good that half the time I am afraid to bring it out,for fear it will get wet---That is not how to enjoy a car.
My my mind is made up
Bye Bye 16 in Durrow hopefully.
And sure if it doesn't sell
Its still one hell of a classic!!!:)

    Hey John,
I have been following your posts over the last week and I have to say that I totally understand where you are coming from. Multiple cars in a collection is not as great as one might imagine.
Fair play to you for keeping the ones you really love and selling the most valuable, but least used. Having a classic & being nervous about using it is pointless, only others benefit knowing you have it. I'm in a similar position myself.
I'll be in Durrow myself tomorrow & look forward to seeing the 16 there, it is really nice and I'd like to own it, but I've learned my lesson...
    Good luck with the sale!

    Hey John,
Saw the 16 in Durrow & looked very nice. Anytime I was going to have a chat with you someone wanted to ask about the car so I just left you to it. I hope that you had some luck! I was parked beside you in the black 912 (the mucky one)
    A good day & a nice spin.

Hey Carlos, I did have a look around your Porsche but you were not ther at the time..Was a good day,,but freezing.
I did have a lot of interest in the car,,but there was a lack of money around yesterday. I think I have a bit of interest,,but I'm afraid that the typical Irish mentality broke out yesterday

You tell a guy how much you want for it--he says you are mad,,,would rather buy one for half nothing, then expect to restore it with paper and filler for 2 grand. Then when he realises that he connot,he does the best he can and flogs it on to the next poor sucker.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

    Hey John,
I hate selling cars, it's always the same old story. Like you say "you get what you pay for". If I have learned anything over the years, it's that I'll never buy a rusty car again. Depending on the car, it's sometimes just not financially viable.
Your car is really nice & I'm sure the right punter will come along. It's always difficult to claw back the money invested in a car. I wish you the best of luck with the sale man.

I think I remember reading somewhere that R21s had different wheelbases depending on the engine (some were transverse, others longitudinal)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 586 ✭✭✭johnf2020

Front what I can remember, the 21 was the only car(correct me if i'm wrong)that had its engine range mounted both ways!!?

If you don't count the Espace then you are correct.
