Would a 40" Samsung be too big for my bedroom??

    Hi all,

I probably know the answer to this question already. Perhaps I am just in denial. rolleyes.gif

I have my eyes set on the Samsung LE40F86 and the new LE40A656. Ideally the later which isn't as wide.

So my bedroom is 10ft by 11ft. Would I be completely mad to go for a 40" tv or should I go smaller. None of the shops seem to have the 37" 6 series frown.gif

I cut out some paper and celotaped it to my wall with the exact dimensions of the LE40 A656, 100 wide * 67 high. It does look big!

I have 11 days to get a decent tv. (GTA4)
    :p

I'd advise you to just buy the 40, an extra 3 inches isn't going to make much difference.

You'll probably get used to it. My 40 inch TV used to look big too, now it seems normal size to me.

Yea I am thinking of just going for it alright! What size room is your tv in and do you sit far from it?

Yes, it will look ridiculously big in a room that small.

Meh, my room is normal sized for a 4 bed semi, and I have a 40 inch. :D Looked too big at the start, and did consider 37" beforehand, but meh! It rocks!! :pac:

Hmmm, I am leaning towards it now! Sure I could always return it after a couple days if its too big!

Are you speaking from experience or making an assumption as your the only person to speak negatively so far and I have placed this same question on other forums too!

Most of us lurk around here because we're interested in oversized TVs, so for the most part you're going to get people telling you to go ahead.

I usually sit about 9 foot from mine. (Nerdy glasses icon would go here)
At this scale, i just can't see an extra 3 inches making a huge difference, so i'd be biased in favour of just suggesting you get the 40.

The optimal viewing distance for a 40" would be 10 foot, your room would be right on that limit, as well as it making things look out of proportion.

Anyway, don't suppose it matters now.

I've heard 6, 8 and now 10 from different people!

It's possible that all 3 are correct, but I'll let you do the research to work it out

Try this calculator based on the THX recommended viewing distances. You can either put in screen size to find recommended distance, or viewing distance to find recommended screen size
    http://myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html

From an interior design perspective, 40" might be too big, the TV would dominate the room. From a playing GTA perspect, the bigger you can get the better :)
