Help setting up router

I'm probably just being incredibly thick (my computer knowledge is essentially zero), but I'm having trouble trying to set up a wireless router and I couldn't find anything in the FAQ or the last few pages of threads that helped, so I'm throwing myself on the mercy of the forum.

I have eircom broadband going through a Netopia Cayman 3300 series modem; I'm trying to set up wireless broadband so I can connect my Wii to the net and was under the impression that a fairly standard wireless router would do the trick, so I now have a Buffalo WBMR-G54 wireless modem router. Problem is, I can't seem to configure it - I've set it all up as per the manual, but when I try to get onto the configuration page (192.168.11.1, if that helps) it just won't load (keeps telling me the server has timed out).

Am I missing something very simple here or have I bought the wrong equipment? Any help at all would really be appreciated (and mocking of my technical ignorance is encouraged)

Is your pc/laptop connected to the router by lan cable?

Config is best done from a PC/laptop. As Sherifu asked, are you connected via a network cable (which should have been supplied with the Buffalo). Connect the cable http://www.global-b2b-network.com/direct/dbimage/50289806/Network_Cable.jpg between the buffalo and a PC/laptop. Wait a few moments. Click on START button, then Run. Type cmd and press enter. Black screen will appear.

At the flashing cursor, type ipconfig and press enter. Take note of IP Address info, eg, 192.168.11.* (* will be between 2 and 254 inclusive). If it is 169.254.*.* you don't have a connection to the Buffalo.

Give the above a shot and report back. Good luck

If any setup is necessary the Wii won't be able to do it as it doesn't have a browser. You'll have to do setup with a PC although the router shouldn't really need any. Another problem could be both the router and the modem is handing out IPs causing conflict. Your modem may not be on the 192.168.11 range.
