2 DVD drives showing up as cd drives and not reading any discs

    Running Win XP Pro.
I have two drives, a dvd rom cd burner and a dvd dual layer burner.
They were working correctly until today. Now they both show up as cd drives and neither can read a cd or dvd.

I tried updating the drivers, uninstalling the drives and re-installing but no joy.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Try using System Restore (Start Menu/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools) to restore your settings, registry etc back to a time when it all worked.

I tried system restore and no dice.

As a last resort i disconnected and reconnected the ide cable and this seemed to sort out the issue. Strange since the drives were recognising there was a disk in the drive, but it was just showing up as 0 bytes.

    Anyway, thanks for the input.
