    Hi

Myself and 5 other lads aged 18-20 are thinking of goign to prague for a few days in august. We were leaning towards renting a fairly central apartment instead of a hostel or hotel. Any advice on an apartment? We were looking at a place called the Aparthotel Melantrich in Wenceslas Square which has mostly good reviews from hostleworld.com but we've heard mixed stories about wenceslas square...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    MIxed stories like what?

It's the main square in Prague. Consider it the O'Connell St of Prague if you will.

Lots of bars and restaurants. Shops too and a big museum at the top. At night, you tend to get a lot of those guys out trying to get you into their niteclub or lap dancing club.

All in all, it would be a very central location. If the reviews are good - go for it.

Wenceslas Square is perfect. As mick said its the O'Connell Street of Prague and you've got a similar small walk to the Old Town (Temple Bar !!!).

6 of us stayed in Golden Prague on Wenceslas Square , massive big apartments, would recommend them, don't recall seeing the place you mentioned, but google it (+ 'reviews') and see what people think.

    EDIT.
'Golden Prague' the place I stayed in is above Marks&Spencers and having googled both of them its exactly the same place as Melantrich.
Same place with different names as Pardraig says below.

Aparthotel Melantrich (it has about 20 other names too) is right on Wenceslas Sq, above Marks and Spencer. Apartments seem fine, if basic, from what I've seen. Full of stag parties, very noisy etc - so I guess 6 18-20 yr olds should fit right in! If you're looking for something a little less raucous, try Prague Old town Apartments whose office is round the corner on Vodickova, with good apartments at 36 Vodickova, great apartments at 40 Vodickova and various other apartments across the town.

Wenceslas Sq isn't nearly as bad as its reputation suggests, but be aware that, as a gang of young lads, you WILL be constantly hassled by touts for strip clubs on the square itself and on Melantrichova (main laneway to the Old Town Square) - just ignore them.
