Usually i dont like dealing with staff anyway, in and type of store.

I just research it myself, go someplace that has the best price and get it.

Liffey Valley is on a par in terms of customer service. There always seems to be a distinct lack of staff in the store.

If you're in Tallaght go to Tallaght Auto Parts or Rickards instead - guarantee they'll be cheaper and the staff appear to know how a car works...

I have to agree on halfords, i only use them when absolutely necessary.

Couple of points about them from my experiance.

    Carlow store:
Wanted to service the car and had some gift vouchers so went in to get oil and filters, didnt have filters in so they said they'd order them and they'd be in in a few days.. no prob I say. Come back a week later and still no sign of them, cancelled order and got them in motor factors 10 mins later (cheaper too).
They are common filters, I paid upfront and they said they had them in the warehouse in Dublin, so no excuse!

Friend of mine lost the centre cap from an alloy (common wolfrace one) after the NCT boys didnt put it back on right, asked could he order one, "no problem it'll be in in a few days". Come back numerous times and still not in, gave up after a few months, each time being promised it would be in in a few days.

Every time something was ordered I was told I would be rang, but I was neither rang or the items did not arrive.

    Liffey Valley:
(Nothing bad about store as such but amusing)

Asked guy working there about performance filters for my car (pricing a K&N), "sure" says the guy, "whats the car?" Passat TDI I say, procedes to go to the NISSAN list and wonders why he cant find a passat there
This guy is in charge of the "modifying" stuff!

    Kilkenny:
Only yesterday I went into the Kilkenny branch wanting number plates. The guy demanded to see my tax book and driving licence (didn't have tax book) before doing them. Offered to show him the car parked outside clearly showing the old worn plates I wanted to replace for NCT, and also NCT disc expiring next month and he wouldnt agree. Strolled down to motor factors and got them for a tenner each with no problem.

I will say that some of their 3 for 2 deals are good (i took advantage on the shampoo/wax offer :D) but a lot of their stuff is expensive. I got a jerry can there and saw the exact same one for a tenner cheaper in the motor factors the next week. Same for headlight bulbs, 15 quid for their own brand and 9euro in the MF.

In general in my experiance they are crap for ordering in stuff and value for money, but handy for small stuff when your stuck and they are open on sundays too.

IMO the motor factors were not doing things right. Too many cases of cloned cars, etc. these days!

I generally find Halfords to be good for general bits and bobs, though some things can be more expensive. If it's something specific to your car, forget it. If you have to ask a member of staff anything vaguely technical, forget it.

(By the way, I LOVE the ads they do on Dave during Top Gear, especially the paint repair job one!!)

In fairness though its a bit silly. If its the law to show you own the car, fair enough, but I'm not aware it is? The guy in Halfords was trying to tell me it was illegal to give me the plates without proof of ownership. I did have the car outside too with the old plates too.

Plus, even if they make plates with whatever number I want, it is me thats committing the crime by putting them on the wrong car, no? Its the same as putting a false tax or insurance disc on your windscreen.

Sure if you wanted you could just order your plates online, you wouldnt have to show any proof either!

Getting fed up of Halfords too, went in the other day to buy a 3 pocket plastic tax/ins/nct display for the windscreen, they used to have them but dont do them any more(said they are obsolete, the're not, they just dont sell them anymore!)got directed to the single (UK spec)round ones instead .
They also seem to have got rid of the're 30% trade discount for card holders, down to about 5% now, will go back to my local factors from now on.

In the UK it is against the law to sell plates of any description over the counter without car id, log book etc. Maybe the fact that Halfords is a UK company means that they(halfords) think the same laws apply over here and
therefore their company policy also applies outside the UK.

I generally stick to the independent retailers. Although their range may not be as good, the quality of service tends to be better, as in many of the smaller stores you will be dealing with the owner.

Beyond alloys and ICE equipment I've generally found independents have a far better range in stock than Halfords!

    Can't agree more!!!

Halfords Tallaght is way down the limits of the acceptable!!

When I asked them for a capacitor for my car amplifier they just looked stupid and told me they never heard that someone would build that in to his car.
The same when asking for parts or other information.

By the way the Halfords in Drogheda is not much better. When asked for the price of a pram, they told us that they did not sell that part yet, as it was just in!

Very bad shop and I have given up on them. I will go to the local parts shop, either they have it or they get it.
    That is service!

as for alloys youd want to be some gob****e to buy them in halfords:cool:

why bother coming on here and in your first post moaning about halfords??

just dont spend your money there??

incidentally for certain parts i find halfords to be fine, my local one in coolock that is, cant speak for the others though!

I don’t know what procedure Halfords Tallaght has in place when recruiting staff but it needs to change. They are nice guys/girls….but know as much about a car as an 8 year old child! Customer service is a laugh, they just don’t care! This attitude has to filter from the top!

They continually order wrong parts and blame the on the suppliers. The Auto shop off the Belgard road is a million times better, and is staffed by qualified people, who can answer most questions, without reading it from a book or computer (and Halfords still get it wrong!).

My impression is that the Ireland stores are a very very small part of Halfords organisation and no effort is put into staff recruiting or staff education. I would hate to see anyone guy or girl loose there job, but Halfords needs to change their attitude or pull out of Ireland….we should not be subjected to this type of service, and we should not tolerate it!

I will only go back to the Tallaght store…if every other store in a 50km radius is closed, and I’m desperately stuck! Never again!
