You'll be sent to a doctor on the insurance company's list of approved doctors. He / she will do a general check up on you and depending on what (if anything) shows up on this you may be sent for futher tests. As you are overweight this will mean that your policy will be higher as your risk of cardivascular disease (among other things) will be increased compared to someone of an average weight.

Sorry coconut but I have to add to that that my brother was turned down for life assurance last year because his BMI is through the roof. He weighs approx 25+ stone and is 5.11" so has a pretty high BMI.

I certainly don't want to put worries in your head but it will be a factor that will be taken into consideration I'm afraid...

Howdy, try not to worry about it. There is nothing you can do about it at this stage anyway! Most likely the company will assess the risk and charge you a higher, more appropriate premium. They are slow to refuse cover usually - if they can't price the risk then arguably they are not doing their job properly. A shorter term for the mortgage may help things as a last resort.

If they do turn you down, take it on the chin and take it as a blessing in disguise. Take a year to change your lifestyle and lose some weight then reapply. Maybe look into this anyway - no offense meant. A healthier you will be a happier you. I know from experience! Best of luck with it.

The insurance company will send you for either a medical with your own GP or an independent doctor, if you want details of what the medical entails pm me. Your premium may be increased, or depending on how overweight/healthy you are you may be declined cover. If this happens don't worry, it won't affect your mortgage, you'll just have to sign a life waiver.

I have a life assurance policy for a 1.1 million business. I am paying 197 euro per month.

    I am 5'6" and 18 stone.

They gave me a 100% loading which doubled my premium.

    Good Luck
