Nikon 50mm f1.4 lens and blue circular halo

    Hi all,

I bought a 'nifty-fifty' last September and haven't used it that much so didn't notice anything amiss. I loaned it to a friend, and when he was doing studio shots with it, he noticed a significant circular blue halo effect in the middle of all his photos. I've seen the photos, and it's very obvious. These were studio shots, so there wasn't any stray light source that could have caused it.

I did a quick google for the lens and hotspot, but can't find that much info on it.

Does anyone know if this is a fault with my lens, or all the Nikon 1.4 50mms?

Unfortunately I bought it from KeaPhoto in HK, so I'm not sure if I have any comeback if it is my lens.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jan

Fungus? Can you see any on the lens or elements?

It's more a discolouration, so I don't think that's it. When you convert to B&W, you can't see it at all.

Would light passing through the fungus be distorted and split by it? Do a search for the effects of fungus and see if it matches?

It seems a little unlikely to me, but I'll certainly check it out and will report back. Thanks :)

Has anyone any other ideas? I can't find any trace of mould on the lens. It's more like it's letting in too much light at that point.

is the halo observed on different camera bodies? also if you can dial in something like f22 it'll be more apparent, and maybe you could post an example of it so people might be able see what it's like - perhaps someone has experience of the condition.

Using film or digital? Were you using a filter?
