Any one read the article in the Metro today?

The ESB CE stated that it is unlikely that the ESB will be able to reach there carbon neutral plans for 2030 because there is no engineers available and there is no engineers coming through. He also stated that due to the age profile of the ESB that they are going to be put under a lot of strain on their engineering resources.

I went for an interview with ESBI a couple of months ago. The offer they made was ridiculous bad. They offered me €2k less than what I was earning at the time and about €7k less than other job offers.

What do they expect? Their recruitment policy is crap. If they want to fulfil their goals they will have to pay people a decent wage.

Too true, i applied for a few graduate positions for them and never even heard back from them. shower of tools. And my CV aint bad so their loss.

Its ridiculus that they have already given up on the carbon neutral plans for 22 years away?

i must have a look for this. definately interesting! how can there be a shortage of engineers? Do they even train engineers up anymore? whats the point of a GDP if its not used to its full potential. that might help and counter their age profile issues!

That's actually ridiculous. I was looking for a job with them a good while ago and they weren't looking for graduates, they were looking for engineers with 2 or 3 years experience minimum.

They seemed fairly pissed when I turned down the job. They thought the offer that they made was a decent one when you factor in benefits (a reduction in you elec bill which would have worked out about €30 a month for me).

It seems to me that they are going to use this as a escape goat for something that they said they could deliver but cant

yeah, I applied a while back too and same story, wanted experienced engineers!

If you look at the comment on the age profile I think thats clear enough for every one to see

    Hi,
Just to give the debate a different angle, I'm in the process of signing contracts with ESBI for a graduate engineering position. Their package on offer was competitive when compared against other offers out there this year for graduates they also seem to have a good training/support program for new engineers. They were advertising for 25 graduate engineers this year across most of the disciplines and another from my class also received an offer.

    Congrats on the job Paul.

Are you going to get an opportunity to travel during your training?

Thanks, I've no idea what travel might be involved. I know there is a good bit of classroom type stuff on the different technologies involved such as gas turbines, boilers etc.. and there will be travel. The more the better I say :D.

Ahhh the life of an engineer on the road... You can't beat a few weeks in some industrial / rural part of Germany or eastern Europe to make you realise no mater how much you can run up on expenses, you'd still rather be at home havin a laugh with your mates... ;)

If I could I would love to be shipped away some where like that for a while. The breaks would do me wonders

I've no doubt your right and that I'll reach that point someday but right now having been locked up in college for so many years I'd jump at the chance go anywhere.
