Nikon 18-200mm VR owners - what's your verdict?

I'm tempted to get the 18-200mm, the much loved/loathed (take your pick) Ken Rockwell swears by it and the convenience appeals to me, no more endlessly swapping the 18-55 and 55-200.

    Do you like it?

Is it true that it goes a bit soft at 200 mm?

Have any of you also tried the Sigma 18-200 - is the Nikon definitely worth the extra?

It's on at e663 on Pixmania at the moment - apart from ebay, are there better deals to be had?

    Thanks.

are you in Dublin? we can meet and you can take all pictures you want with mine
    great lens!
if you compare it with a 200 mm (fixed) lens it will be softer
but not much difference with your 55-200 I'd say
very versatile lens and VR really works

just bought one recently after having the sigma for a while.

yes its worth it over the sigma.

bermingham have it at 699, cheapest in dublni i think, 799 elsewhere.

Tempted to go for it and buy the 18-200mm lens from purelygadgets.co.uk - e534 including delivery, which is the best deal I've seen so far (e130 cheaper than Pixmania!)

Before I click 'buy' has anyone else had dealings with purelygadgets? I've seen a couple of complimentary references to them on Boards but just wondering if any of you good people have had any good or bad experiences with them?

Finally, any other online shops worth checking before I do the deed?

    Thanks.

PS Thanks for that generous offer quilmore! If I back out of buying from purelygadgets I'll be taking you up on it - thanks again!

Thanks Mylow, I've been in PM contact with Quilmore. Tempted, but for e34 extra I'll get one new so might go for that. Unless Quilmore wants to lower his price? :)
