I mean as long as i have enough at the end of the week to pay the mortgage and bills and have a few socials while keepping everybody happy, im happy.

Some of my friends make serious money, wont spend a penny of it and are never making enough, i find it sad, working morning noon and night.
maybee im just too laid back?? i work hard for my keep but never really take anything too serious and never worry too much either.
Some of my mates have lost sleep and found themselves in fear of not having a wage at the end of the week, Ok if you have bills and kids and the likes but most of theese guys are still living at home.

I know somebody making alot of money for their age and wont move out of home cause they refuse to pay rent. And they're not living in Dublin.
Im happy with what i make, wouldnt mind a bit more but sure im still relatively young.

Only when i know i have enough left over would i spend money and when i do i go all out, new music album, a PS3 game or DVD

I also hate how people are so serious about money like my Da, always stingy and even if the thing cost 10 euro like my hair cuts he still thinks he could save money by doing it myself, but i say no da put the beer and razor down and back away Just Kidding but he dose get on to me about spending money on things he thinks can be done for free

I'd be the same as yourself OP, as long as I have a few quid to keep me going I'm happy.

I've chosen to study and work in an industry where I know I'll be on crap pay for many, many years but that doesn't bother me because its something I'm passionate about. I'll get great satisfaction and enjoyment from my work, which motivates me more than money ever could.

On the other hand, I know a guy who works 12 hour days in an office job he hates. He has no social life, but anytime I do see him he'll be showing off his brand new phone/gadget or telling me about his latest holiday, to a 5 star resort in Dubai or something similar, or else actually bragging about the fact that his "lavish lifestyle" has his seriously in debt.
Don't think I'll ever understand his logic!

I would say I am very driven by money.

I am not greedy. I look after friends. I even don't cry when other workmates go home or skip a round in the pub after work. I go on holidays etc and am out most weekends.

I do however get a great sense of achievement by making money. This in turn enables me to buy things and make a better future. So if there's an extra few quid to be made I will be nearby :pac:

If I have money i'll spend it, not tight with it no. I only take 300 or 700 out of ATMs, gotta spend it then. :s

I worked hard to get where I am now so enjoy spending when I can, the odd* DVD or add another worthless gadget to the pile. :)

I'd love loads of money but only because then I'd have one less thing to worry about. (And also so I could buy loads of crap.) I'm a worrier.

But I'll never be rich so I'll just get by.

I love earning money. It makes me very happy indeed although I am also well aware that it is not the most important thing. Health and happiness come first, but after I say earn like f*ck. Money gives you the ability to buy nice things and have a good life. Get stuck in.

now that i have earned it i will admit that i am slightly driven by it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Nah I'm not particularly motivated by money. I spend it the usual: clothes, books, CDs, DVDs, heading out at the weekend, petrol - nothing hugely costly.

Very driven by mon€y. But I also love spending it. Its a great feeling working for money and being able to splash out on something every once in a while.

Across the pond attending university on scholarship, and only part-time work, so the budget is tight. Don't want to live like this forever, so I need to make more. But no McMansions in my plans, just a little 2-bed cottage with a view of the sea, and a few pets: hubby, one or two kids, and a dog.

My Grandpa on Da's side told me once that "If I do what I do well, I'll never have worries for funds." I like his philosophy.

A penny? This ain't Ireland anymore, we're in the European Nation now!!! Soon to be renamed New China.....

I love having lots of money....but I also love spending lots of money.
Unfortunately, it's rather difficult to do both.

Not really. It's nice to have money, so that you don't have to worry about bills or a rainy day, but I don't really waste it when I have it. So many people buy such junk with their wages, it's unreal! I can't understand someone working their ass off, putting 70-80 hours a week, doing something they hate to earn money so as to buy sh*t they don't need.

It's like they blow all the money they earn by "recovering" from their work lifestyles through drink, drugs, gadgets, clothes, shoes (I'm thinking of women when I say this) etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,727 ✭✭✭✭Sherifu

If I have enough to live i'm happy enough. Money is down the list a bit. If it was running short for paying bills then it'd be a problem.

    Jerimiah speaketh common sense.

I respect money. I know its value and I never want to be in a situation where, what I hold dear loses out because of lack of funds.

I don't derive pleasure from the attainment of material things.

I'm very driven by money, I love it!!
My salary over the years has gone up and up and now I earn a pretty good wage but I never ever seem to go more than a month without tapping the credit card a little.
Theres always some electrical gizmo or new hobby that requires anything I might have put aside as savings, I really should get my act together.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

I would like to think that when im pushing 40 and have one or two sprogs that i would have a nice medium sized house in the country with a paddock and room for 2 or 3 stables, and that both me and the hubbie would have a nice medium sized car and a jeep of some description and to have no real money worries.

The more sprogs the merrier down with this money grubbing one or two nonsense!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Davidius

I'm the kind of person who in the event of having lots of money wouldn't really spend it on anything. I'd generally be happy with what I have. If I was going to buy anything I'd have to have planned at least two months in advance.

I don't really care for money either.

    ROFL

I have a few mates who would be at the ATM at midnight just to see if their wages has gone through.I think this is quite sad really, but then again money only becomes a problem when you haven't got any !!
Once I have enough for the few socials over the weekend (oh and the odd game of golf) I'm happy.

Pretty much same as myself, willing to work hard to make big money but I still like to have a life. Generous to my OH when i've got money but usually when i'm loaded I hate spending it!

Hate work, not a shopper. But there are things I like to to like travel. If that where free I'd have little need for money.

I'm more interested in enjoying myself than working tbh, I'm enjoying how I'm earning at the mo but long term I'll hopefully find something that I really enjoy and make a load of cash at.

    Or win the lotto.

Not driven by the idea of huge wealth, and the most important things in my life aren't material, but it's pointless to say that having no money wouldn't matter in some respects. Especially when you have kids.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,367 ✭✭✭✭watna

I'm not hugely driven by money, tbh. Once I can pay my bills and have a little left over for a few treats (holidays etc) I'm happy.

No matter how much I eanr I always find a way to spend. I wouldn't imagine being hugely rich would make me much happier.

I'd take 40k a year for no work over a 200k, 80 hour a week :"zomg the company is so important job" in a flash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

i took a near 50% paycut to go part time in my job to get a better quality of life.

havent regretted it for a moment, i can pay all the bills, eat out, go to cinema etc and still save a little to go away for a short trip abroad once a year or so. plus i get to lie in more which is the REAL boon.

TBH the whole "celtic tiger" thing got on my tits, im just not that materialistic. i'll take a three day week over an 80 hour week anytime. money to me is just a means to an end, not an end in itself. as long as i can maintain my current lifestyle im happy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

^ Dats what aam talkin bout. I'm so good at just lounging around and taking it easy, I think it would be a shame to waste the talent by working hard. Science is the perfect business for that sort of thing...30 hour weeks, reasonable but not great moniez....suits me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 402 ✭✭newestUser

I'm not driven in the slightest by money. I'm careful with what little money I do have, and I'm reasonably financially literate. However, it's not high up on my list of priorities. I don't subscribe to the school of thought that 'more money=more happiness', and I'm not materialistic.

Think about that more carefully. What you'd earn in 3 years on the 200k job would take you 15 years on the 40k job. I know which one I'd choose and work at it for 5 years and be able to retire early. People can be too short sighted.

I am working as hard as I can and plan to for the next few years so that I will be quite comfortable at 40. And no that doesnt mean I have to sacrafice my lifestyle in the meantime.

In college I used to go around wishing I could afford things.
Now I have a few bob I carry about 500 euro in cash all the time and it's amazing how little I spend, just knowing that I can afford things makes me happy not necessarily buying them.

Thats security , knowing you can get something if you want. I think having enough to know the bills are paid, mortgage is sorted and a bit put aside for rainy days or emergencies would do me just nicely . Oh and known family would be ok if you weren't around.

Other than that as long as I have enough to stand my round and go on the odd shopping splurge and holiday etc... Im a happy camper.
