skype mic query

just a quick one: i have to talk to a friend of mine in america on skype tonite......thing is i dont have a mic/headset combo. i think i remember someone telling me that you could use an ordinary set on headphones and talk into one ear and listen in the other.....???? i dont really think that would work but maybe some here…

i dont really think that would work but maybe some here would know for definate??

the only other thing i have is an xbox live headset but the connection is too small for my laptop........

maybe il just have to use the IM feature?
i dont have time to head to the shops to buy anything so if anyone has any ideas??????
