Thanks Blackbelt. I wonder will rte show some games at the same time as tv3? Will there be more choice to which matches to watch? Or is it a case of either or?

Kind of like getting the UEFA Cup when you really want the champions league. :D
At least Matt and whoever else can't mess up anything worth watching and we can watch the Ulster coverage on BBC NI

As far as I know they were sold as separate packages meaning they are exclusive to whoever has them. The games on TV3 are only on TV3.

The only one they have I'm interested in are the 2 football finals (and I'll prob be at the Connacht final), the munster hurling game and the 2 leinster semis. The leinster hurling final will prob be a washout again and the qualifiers are really top notch in the early stages

BBC claimed today on the sports news that they will show 7 Ulster Championship games live. Not that I'll be watching them, as I won't be bringing my television to the matches.

I emailed RTE three times and no answer although in fairness,I do not know if I am emailing the correct email address and I know they are busy as they get lots of emails etc.

Have to play this waiting game.

I may go to the Connaught or Ulster Final depending on which one doesn't clash with Leinster although there may be a good match in Croker that day.Would the Ulster Final be in Clones and where will the Connaught Final be on if its Mayo-Galway?

Read somewhere that Ulster final will be in either Clones or Casement, would be surprised if Casement got it though.. but when Donegal and Armagh meet in the final again, Clones might be too small..

Eugene Magee knows his stuff anyway, haven't seen much of Earley in a punditry way.

I like Nicky English too he wouldn't be bad, mind you what they really need is someone crazy rather than a lot of rational analysis.

Yeah thats exactly what you want, none of the Jamie Redknapp style sitting on the fence. Someone like Shane Curran for the football or John Power for the hurling. Someone who will throw out a few real bogger jokes in the Ted Walsh style on the racing coverage.

    Thursday, 1 May 2008 13:37
RTÉ Sport has revealed details of its comprehensive GAA Championship 2008 coverage across RTÉ Television, RTÉ Radio and RTÉ.ie at a launch in Montrose.
The Sunday Game will celebrate its 30th year with a number of new innovations, while RTÉ Radio will provide live and exclusive coverage of the Championship. RTÉ.ie will add a dedicated web channel to its highly successful GAA site.

Michael Lyster will present The Sunday Game for a 25th season, while Pat Spillane returns for highlights and analysis every Sunday night throughout the Championship.

Broadcasting up to 40 live games, The Sunday Game will be further strengthened by three new panellists.
Joining the team will be former Clare hurling goalkeeper Davy Fitzgerald, former Wexford hurler Declan Ruth, former Dublin football captain Coman Goggins.

RTÉ's flagship GAA programme will continue to innovate, with brand new results and analysis features as well as the provision of a dedicated match centre in RTÉ.

This year's Sunday Game programme will see the introduction of a brand new state-of the-art analysis tool known as 'PIERO'.
Specially adapted for Gaelic Games and exclusive to The Sunday Game, new features will include player tracking, distance to posts and speed of the ball.
Joanne Cantwell will join Pat Spillane each Sunday night for a new in-depth analysis segment and, in a brand new feature of The Sunday Game Live, Joanne Cantwell will also be providing the latest news, views and results live from the GAA match centre in RTÉ.

Also new for this year's Championship is a brand new dedicated web channel on RTÉ.ie.
The GAA Media Player will be the hub for fans, with the latest video and audio content on all things Championship.
The site will feature all of RTÉ's GAA output, including live coverage, highlights, news, interviews and features from across RTÉ Television, RTÉ Radio and RTÉ News.
The Sunday Game, Take Your Point and The Road To Croker are just some of the programmes that will be available on demand.

The GAA Media Player will be part of RTÉ.ie's dedicated GAA Championship site, which last year received six million page impressions.
The site will continue to feature expert analysis, live text match-trackers, exclusive podcast material, picture galleries, Championship schedules and interactive features, as well as news, previews and match reports.
RTÉ Radio 1 will provide the most comprehensive national radio coverage of the Championships.
The renowned team of Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh, Brian Carthy, Adrian Eames, John Kenny, Pauric Lodge, Siobhan Madigan, Martin Kiely and Clem Ryan will provide commentaries and reports on all of the Championship action.

Sunday Sport, presented by Jimmy Magee for the last 30 years, will be the flagship radio programme for the Championship, with additional programmes being broadcast on Saturday evenings for the qualifiers.
Take Your Point with Con Murphy will return on Sunday, 1 June at 6.05pm for analysis and reaction to the afternoon's games.
During the week, Drivetime Sport with Des Cahill at 6.30pm will follow all the breaking stories, while this year Brian Carthy's Championship programme will be featured each week in the early part of Saturday Sport.

On RTÉ News, Jonathan Mullin, RTÉ's new Gaelic Games correspondent will provide reports on all the latest championship developments and breaking news stories.
Group Head of Sport Glen Killane said: 'It's a testament to RTÉ's GAA coverage that The Sunday Game continues to go from strength-to-strength 30 years on and that RTÉ Radio's team are so widely respected and synonymous with GAA throughout the country.
'While the public recognise RTÉ's proud tradition of Gaelic Games broadcasting, they have also enjoyed and engaged with our more recent initiatives.
'The Road To Croker and Take Your Point will both return this season after successful runs last year and we've had phenomenal response to our dedicated Championship site on RTÉ.ie which last year received six million page impressions.
'Our 2008 Championship coverage will include several new features, from our dedicated web channel on RTÉ.ie to our enhanced analysis features on The Sunday Game.
'We're constantly innovating and improving our coverage to ensure that GAA fans can enjoy the highest quality Gaelic Games coverage across RTÉ's wide range of platforms.'
The Sunday Game began broadcasting 1979 on RTÉ Television. Jim Carney presented the first series, followed by Seán Óg O Ceallacháin in 1980. In 1981 Jim Carney returned and presented the programme for the next three years. Current presenter Michael Lyster took over the programme in 1984 and has been at the helm ever since.

The programme originated as a highlights programme on Sunday nights and then in the early 1990's The Sunday Game Live began broadcasting live matches in the early evening and then later, in the afternoons. Michael Lyster currently presents The Sunday Game Live, while Pat Spillane has been the main anchor of the Sunday night highlights show since 2004

Pat Spillane is being wasted in the highlights.I know a lot of ye hate him but he was never a dull analyst a.k.a Colm O'Rourke.

It will be interesting to see who TV3 bring in or the different panels.
Hurling:Ger 'Redster' O'Grady and Eugene Cloonan
Football: Anyone but Trevor Brennan :D

One of the best pieces of news so far this summer

    http://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/championship/2008/0510/sundaygame.html?gaa
RTÉ Television today announced that the much-loved original Sunday Game theme tune will be re-instated this year to celebrate 30 years of the popular flagship GAA programme.

The James Last composed theme tune, which was replaced in 2004, has been remastered by music composer John Walsh and will be played on tomorrow's Sunday Game Live on RTÉ Two at 2.45pm, the opening programme of the season.

Paul Byrnes, Executive Editor, GAA and Editor of The Sunday Game said: 'When The Sunday Game theme tune was replaced in 2004 it was part of a remodernisation of The Sunday Game. We very much wanted to make the point that we were updating our Gaelic Games coverage and moving with the times.

'We'll of course continue to have a fresh approach to our coverage this year with three new panellists and a new analysis system, but over the last few seasons we've been inundated with requests from the public to bring it back and this year, the 30th year of The Sunday Game, seemed to be the appropriate time to do it.

'Travelling the length and breadth of the country with The Sunday Game over the last few years, the replacement of the theme tune was always much talked about and lamented.

'It's fitting that the 30th year of The Sunday Game will feature the best of both worlds - a link to the past while looking forward to what promises to be a very exciting Championship season'.

TV3 have announced their pundits for their programs.Former Armagh manager Joe Kernan and Roscommons Paul Earley will be the panellists for football while Nickey English and Liam Griffin will be panellists for the hurling.

It is rumoured that Matt Cooper who presented the Last Word on Today Fm and covered the Rugby World Cup will be the presenter.

RTÉ is making the Sunday Game highlights program available worldwide every Wednesday after airing which is quite good news for ex-pats, it's better than a complete lock out anyway.
Does anyone know if The Sunday Game evening program will show highlights of any games that were on TV3 live?

    This too shall pass.

It looks like RTE are going to drop their coverage of the SFC game between Offaly and Westmeath and the SHC game between Dublin and Wexford, in order to show Euro 2008 games.

The GAA moved the games to suit RTÉ and now the É is saying they don't want them? If they go ahead with that move the GAA should offer the games to TV3. RTÉ shows soccer for 9 months of the year and GAA for 5. Now that the Championship is in full swing they want to show two group games in a soccer tournament that Ireland has no more than a passing interest in. No doubt the soccer is being shown on the BBC anyway. Maybe the GAA should offer the International Rules to TV3 to wake RTÉ up.

Under the new sponsorship deals the host counties of TV matches are due €30,000 as they have to cover their sponsors hoardings with the official championship sponsors' logos. Will RTÉ be compensating them?

Why can't they use RTÉ One for the games. They show nothing at that time on a Saturday. Will they be shown online?

the games weren't moved were they? I thought the mixups was that the GAA moved them to a time that clashed with the Euro 2008 games?

As far as I know RTÉ are contracted to show all the games in the Euro 2008, they can't just decide not to show them. Of course the times for the Euros have been known for a long time..

Yet another embarrassing mess up and PR for the GAA. Regardless of whos fault it is, it looks bad on the GAAs part. Is it really that difficult to arrange this type of thing and make a few phone calls? As copacetic says, the Euros schedule has been known for a good while now.

Thought it was quite good actually certainly the commentary and most of the analysis was as good as RTÉ and the graphics and the overall package were fairly professional. The only quibble I'd have was the camera work. I thought the filter was too bright on the camera meaning the sliotar was sometimes lost sight of and sometimes he seemed to be struggling to keep up with the action. Overall encouraging and I'm sure they'll iron out some of the little things as they go along.

    Are you serious?
The European Championships has no relevance to any Irish people with the exception of some of the 'new Irish' as Poland is in the tournament. I want to watch the Dubs beat Wexford and make their first provincial final in 17 years. Fvck the Euro's, its just another excuse for Dunphy to moan.

It was pretty good for a first day out I thought, although I'm reserving judgement until they do a football game next week, I'll be better able to judge them then.

I could see little or no difference between themselves and RTE and if anything I thought the standard of analysis from the three lads in studio was a little ahead of the competition. But maybe that's just the novelty of hearing new voices for a change. Was concerned Matt Cooper would make a bags of doing GAA but he was very good I thought and asked good questions.

I agree about some of the camera work though, needs improving, and the piling on of the ads is a bit wearying as well.

Throw in time for Wexford v Dublin has been changed, so looks like it will be on TV now. Laois asked for their football game against Wexford to be moved, but that motion has been rejected.

    http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-football/laois-hopes-of-deferral-quashed-as-tv-schedule-gets-priority-1397359.html
The Leinster Council have turned down a request from the Laois County Board to have their Leinster semi-final against Wexford deferred by a week.

Laois made the request -- after their place in the semi-finals was established on Saturday -- due to the Feile na nGael finals being played in the county over the weekend.

The finals of the U-14 hurling tournament take place on the Sunday and will require large numbers of stewards and officials who would otherwise be in Croke Park for the game.

But, because of TV constraints, the provincial body met last night and decided that the game would go ahead as scheduled.

    Clashed

The first semi-final is part of TV3's 10-game package and a switch to a double header with Dublin/ Louth/Westmeath/Offaly would have clashed with the televising of an Ulster football semi-final on RTE. The decision will be met with disappointment in Laois.

The Leinster Council also decided not to switch the time of Saturday night's Leinster football quarter-final between Offaly and Westmeath to suit TV schedules.

RTE were originally showing the game live on TV but are now showing a Euro 2008 match instead at the expense of the Tullamore game.

A compromise has been reached however whereby the Offaly/Westmeath game will be shown as part of a deferred coverage package at 9.50 later that night.

The other game under threat because of a Euro 2008 clash, the Leinster semi-final between Dublin and Wexford, will now go ahead at the earlier time of 4.15 after agreement was reached last night between the counties

Yes I was being deadly serious! As Mossy said, RTé have to show the all the Euros, where as I believe (not sure?) their deal with GAA means they only have to show a number of games? (So they can be more flexible, which i am sure suits both sides considering high profile replays etc)

Believe you, I would watch under 14 parish football quicker than Poland V Austria or whoever it is.
My point was, regardless of whos mistake it was, it was all down to poor communication and its embarrassing in this day and age, as it makes the Gaa look unorganised regardless of whos fault it is.
