I registered for the 1st race taking place on the 7th May, and was wondering if anybody would have some info about the new course map?
we’ve moved to a larger course. The distances are the same, just the number of laps has been reduced. Plus we’ve put in a little hill on the bike!!!
Course maps, entry lists and more event info are on www.dublintri.com

Unfortunately, dublintri.com web site is not working.

    Thanks

Ah Belpark. This is the first year in five years I don't have to answer questions or deal with crap on the Duathlon series.

What's the standard like in these events? I was thinking of having a go but was shocked by the times last year (winner in 38 minutes!) I'm under no illusions about winning but I don't want to be coming last either:o

Everybody has to start somewhere, and they seem to be welcoming first-timers.

My "naive" guest is that my total running time will be at best 30min, cycle at best 30min (very wild guess based on few cycles this week).
Though, i just discovered that the bike-run transition could be more challenging than i would have anticipated.

I am under no illusion that i will see most of the race (far!) from the back, and that they may be laughing spectators as a "snail" passes the finish line .....but i will at least have done my best, taken part and taken part in a new type of sporting event, and achieved something new at the age of 40:cool:
That's to me is priceless....and deserve a wee bit of recognition:rolleyes:
Hopefully, i will not put me off doing another one..

    Hi 911sc,
That's a fair point - nothing ventured, nothing gained. It could be me and you going for the wooden spoon!

I've just started doing a few and have my fourth on Saturday in M<ullingar. Go for it i say. I was under the same concerns when i did my first a few weeks back but there really is all levels. All times i was finishing the cycle and heading out on the run the winner was then comign through to finish it all!!

All levels at the Duathlon's. First time I did them was 4 years ago and was happy to finish in under 60 mins ( I wasn't last). Now back training again after 3 years of doing nothing and would hope to keep it under an hour. They are great Brick training sessions.

Here's a map of the bike course. The run lap will be on the footpath inside all this.
The run is quite flat. It's coming up Kyber Road that I'm not looking forward to (I'm assuming it is anti-clockwise but it could be clockwise).

Looks like they haven't paid their hosting fees.

    Thanks, daymobrew, much appreciated.

Also, for info, the 2008 map course can be seen from the "Dublin Duathlon" Google group. I just discovered that few minutes ago as i completed my subscription to join this group.

    you are right, it's anti-clockwise....
The new longer course will mean that there's only 3 laps on the bike, so it
should be less congested and it includes the Kyber hill to help break up any
group which form on the cycle.

I cycle home about 4 days a week up the Kyber Road and it's not that bad. There's a fairly steep start to it but there's about 3 flattish parts of the hill that really take the sting out of it.
Although if you're planning on sprinting up it, that's another thing entirely!

well, you are wrong now :-(
A new PDF of the course has just been uploaded onto google group...showing the direction for run and cycle.. Clockwise all the way.

I think I prefer this - it'll mean steep bits up to the magazine fort and then up to St Mary's Hospital, but a nice fast run down Kyber Pass.

Don't forget, the August race is a long one, maybe an extra bike lap or two.
