It's coming in to that time of year again and I'd like to try out a few different ciders and am hoping for some recommendations.

I had a bottle of Gaymers recently, which I'd recomend anyone trying. I used to enjoy Cashels too, don't see it around anymore though.

    Suggestions?

Personally I only really drink Strongbow. Either the original or sweet versions. Used to hate not being able to get it in Ireland and I loved nothing more than a pint of it when I went to England, Barcelona etc. We have it here in Oz too and it's beautiful on a summer's day. I used to bring cans back from my day trips to England all the time.

Like most people I was a Bulmers drinker as a kid but those days are long gone.

+1 for Gaymers......its nice and crisp.
But my cider drinking days are long gone, so im not in a position to comment properly on the subject. Can't really stomach sweet drinks like that anymore.

Brut Cider from Brittany is by far the best cider I have ever drank. Streets ahead of anything else. It's crisp, apple tastey, no strong after taste.
I never touch cider here in Ireland, but when I get to Brittany I'll drink it by the bottle.
I wish they sold it here.

Double L is pretty good, if you can find it. It's made by the guy who runs the apple juice stall in Temple Bar market, though The Man won't let him sell his cider there any more.

Another vote for Double L. Bone Dry.
    Is it available anywhere now?

Though not cider, or perry. 'Tis an alcopop.

Noby, I'm racking my brains for where in Dublin I saw Double L for sale recently. It's definitely on the market anyway. David will sell it directly by the case if you call him in advance, purchase over the phone and then collect from him at the market.

Well the label says its cider, and to me it does taste like cider. Just with pear instead of apple :p

So im gonna stick with the opinion thats its cider :p:p

Good stuff, thanks for the recomendations so far. I'll try the strongbow. I have already tried Kopparberg. I'll have a search for the others.

Adams Cider is a slightly drier cider than Bulmers, but very nice.

i think i must be one of the few ppl that would go for druids out of choice. It started as being broke and a student, but after the first few (and it did take a while :) ) you do get used to them!

Lovely on a hot day with loads of ice (it really is dry) costs a bomb (6+ euro) in the Porterhouse but they sell it for about 2.20 sterling in Wetherspoons so thats the beverage of choice for me in the north.Down here its the Mystical Celtic Cider (druids :p )

Cheers I'l give tesco a look this evening (normally get the promotion crates of beer from supervalue or bottles of spirits from the great wee offy on talbot street so never look in tesco for drink)

Though today doesn't look like cider drinking weather :-(

tesco are not normally as least in the republic, but someone seems to be pushing craft cider

So, I'd a bottle of the Kopperberg Cider, God awful stuff. Weak on apples, strangely sweet with a peculiar scent.

I've another couple in the fridge and am on a search for a Brittany Cider.

Yep, tastes just like cidona and vodka. I can no longer drink cidona because of it :(

I had thatchers once which was nice. Got some in the templebar food market too, dunno if he is still there, you might have to ask for it, may be under the counter, he would be selling apple juice. All homemade.

I gave up the cider when I found out the shocking amounts of methanol that is in it, which explained my hangovers from it.

This would be David Llewellyn of Double L. Yes he's still there; no you can't buy cider from him on spec. See above.
