Yea this probably isn't the place for this but you are all on pc's so what the hell, just wondering how many of you have ever read a license agreement, I've installed hundreds of programs by this stage and never even considered reading one, I just tick that little box, some people say you'd be shocked if you read them that you are infact selling your soul and stuff like that

Depends on how important the piece of software is. I'll usually jump to important sections. For example, using a devolopers kit its smart to roll over things dealing with Intellectual Property, just for a start. for 99% of software though, pfft.

For instance if you used some developers kits (like map editors for example) the EULA advises you don't 'own' anything you make with it and anyone is free to use/modify the levels/maps that you create. Good example from my youth was the Starcraft Map Editor.

The windows vista one is purest Evil incarnate

So yeah, i'd take a look over anything i wanted to use for the long term, like an operating system or a IDE, anyone who doesn't has no right to bitch when they get screwed over by it.

if only ticking a box could have been substituted for reading a long page of boring content in all forms of life

I might have made it through college.

I once installed a piece of software and when it came to the usual licence agreement, as you'd expect I clicked "I Agree"

Suddenly this message comes up with the following

"You managed to read the licence agreement in 0.2394 seconds!! You must be a genius" :D

Yes but only because I had to write several myself.

I've often wondered how far you could go - is claiming the rights to the users virgin bride out of the question?
What if they click yes and therefore agree to a hidden clause that transfers ownership of their house to me?

    :pac::pac:

I hate the ones where you have to scroll through the entire thing before they'll allow you to click the "I Agree" button. And some of those are long mofos.

I've tried reading one or two but didn't have the patience for it.

As far as I'm concerned I don't read em' or understand em' and the writers of it know it won't be understood by most and ignored. So I don't see how they mean anything at all. I never knew what I was agreeing too, all I did was press a button how can I be held legally responsible?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭4Xcut

@above, because you claim to agree with them by clicking the box. That's how you can be held legally responsible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

But no ones ever made clear what the agreement is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,738 ✭✭✭Naos

Eh, I'm pretty sure the agreement is covered in the License Agreement you weren't bother to read...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

But I wouldn't understand it if I did read it.

Only if I have nothing better to do.

I think I read one once out of curiosity. May have been a dream though.

In a similar vein, I'd bet there are many people here who don't read polls and just click Atari Jaguar.
