Where does it go, and how is it recycled? I'm confused?

Recyling is just a big myth. One of these corporate buzz words. It actually just ends up in some dump some were.

So what your saying is that all the rubbish that we put out for recycling is not recyled?

Interesting, they did this during the second world war. People were encouraged to submit any metal that they had to build planes and tanks. London folks submitted their railings, pots and pans: anything metal to help the war effort. None of it was useful, it was a propaganda exercise to make people feel more involved.

So the question to me now is why are we recycling our rubbish? Is it being actually recycled and re-used? Or is it being sent abroad to rot?

Very unlikely. Waste management is big business in Ireland - the industry is estimated to be worth about €1.5 billion annually. Considering the high costs of landfill and the demand for raw materials in places such as the Far East, it makes a lot of economic sense to recycle. According to the EPA, in 2005, 34.6% of municipal waste generated in Ireland was recycled and 59.9% of packaging waste was recycled.
