Well People I was sitting down today having a nice cupa with my dad when he asked what the mark on my arm was..
I casually answered "ah just a bit of try skin" and to my horror he replies "looks like ringworm"..

Personally I haven't a clue what Ringworm is.. so.. Just wondering if anyone knows-

    Is it serious/dangerous?
    Will it grow larger?
Do I need a doctors appointment or can i get something over the counter?

Well any help would be good.. I'm still not sure whether or not i should be embarrassed here;)..................

had it when i was a sprog, tis a small fungal infection. shouldn't get bigger but you might get more marks. Perfectly simple to treat, over the counter stuff available at a pharmacy was what was bought for me and i type before you, ringworm-less!

This isn't a medical forum so obviously i'd advise you have it checked out, but i believe it's a fungal infection, not actually a worm, so no need to panic about worms coming out of your arm

    Go to doctor / pharmacist.

i had it as a kid.

It was on my finger beside my little finger.

It starts in a ring and spreads out. Sounds gross, but after a while the scab at the edge if u oeel it back u'll se little holes like wood worm holes..

Sounds daft comming from me..as i dont believe in the supersticious or "quack" method.. but the only cure i could get that worked was "seventh son of a sevent son" he rubbed it and said a decade of the roseary.. 2 - 3 trips to him.. it vanished

It's a fungus. You can get it from coming into contact with animals.

My dad got it years ago from rigging up milking machines or something in a cow shed. He put dabs of neat Jeyes Fluid on it. Although he comes from the time when people were made of steel, raw potatoes cured everything and no one wore/had shoes etc.:)*

Nowadays they have a cream you can get from the pharmacist.

Dont pick it, dont touch it.

*I am in no way advocating the use of Jeyes Fluid for anything. I don't think they even sell it to clean shores anymore.

My mrs had it. She works with kids and picked it up from them. It is fungal, the cream didnt work so she had a course of pills.

Dont worry about it. Pop down to your doc.

Your not minging, you probally caught it off a dog or cat, my dog seems particularly prone to them and my uncle got it off him before.

There is an antifungal cream you can buy over the counter that clears it right up. I cant remember the name but if you ask the pharmacist she will tell you.

FWIW, I have had ringworm for almost a year. Initially I was using a cream recommended to me by the pharmacist, when that wasnt working he told me that there was a stronger cream but I'd need to see a doc first.

Have now been on strong (and expensive..) tablets and a cream for about 6 months. What was one ringworm has ended up being 6, though the three initial ones are now well and truly gone (apparently I have a very aggressive strain...) The remaining three are only now beginning to fade. If they are not gone by the end of the month I've to go back to the doc and she's talking then about referring me to a dermatologist.

So please DONT leave it on the long finger, go to your GP and see what they have to say. I realise that my case is not the norm but just be aware that they can sometimes be very stubborn and difficult to get rid of.

It may not be ringwork at all, might just be a patch of dry skin. When I was up home the other week my mum pointed out a bit on my arm and said it might be ring worm. I put moisturiser on for a few days and it's gone now.

yeah, i was sure it was just a patch of dry skin until my dad pointed it out yesterday. He set my mind racing, ya know how it is.. Just been to the chemist and girl behind the counter said it definitly looks like ringworm so just got an anti-fungal gel off them..

Time to get cracking with it...:)
