The E410 is quite cheap too with the twin lens kit... or at least it seems reasonable. What are these cameras like? I'm in the market for an entry-level DSLR, I'd like to spend as little as possible but am willing to spend enough to get what I want.

This looks like it would give you more to start off with than the 400D for a similar price as you get the two lenses with it... anyone care to give some advice?

E410 and E510 have the same sensor and image processor, the 510 has image stablisation which is valuable in certain situations, and more user controls.

This is a great deal, if you have no existing lenses it will be hard to beat.

The Olympus e410 and e510 cameras have been available for about a year. Both have live view but e510 also has Image stabilisation i.e. anti shake. A new e420 has been just released and you could expect an e520 soon.

I have an e400 which predates the e410. Excellant camera. The kit lenses from Olympus seem to be better than equivelent from from Nikon or Canon but there is a lack of cheap lens for Olympus. In other words, the lenses tend to be very good but pricey. The sensor size is smaller and this tends to produce noisier images at high iso/low light. This is the only limitation I have found with these Olympus cameras.
I would have no hesitation in recommending either camera but personally I would go for e510 as I think the Image stabilisation, which will work with all lenses, is worth the extra money. If this is not important to you then e410 is neater.

    Good luck with your choice

I just picked up one for 374 inc kit lens 14-42mm + 4 gig card from emilyandlily E-bay shop in the UK, 465 + postage will get you a second kit lens included.

410 with both lenses was 380 + delivery .. but i think the IS will be worth sacrificing the lens.

Counting the hours now till I get it.

You can also use older Olympus fit (and some others) lenses with an adaptor and of course only manual focus. The four thirds standard doubles your zoom length. e.g. 100mm becomes equiv to 200mm.

I dont really think the use of an older lense is a problem especially with the live view and there's some nice ones on ebay.

When Mine arrives I'm going to try it with an old 100-300mm pentax I have.

deevey - I'd be really interested on what you think of this camera.
I've been looking at the Canon 400D, but this seems like a decent alternative.

He he, i'll be interested in seeing what I think of this camera !

Got shipping confirmation today whoohoo so I guess after.

The sheer number of reasonably priced lenses for the 400d might be a reason to go for it if you can spare the few extra bob.

But as you can see from my sig ... I "think different" :D

i was in dusseldorf about a week and a half ago - saw the e410 dual lens kit for €399 on the high street. and dusseldorf would be generally expensive by german standards.
