Busing through ballsbridge today, the American embassy was the only one of what I saw that had their flag at half mast.

Israel, Italy and Czech had theirs still fully flown...

    Thanks for the respect,

The last male president of Ireland. We must strive for social change!

This is honestly the first time I've seen the USA get thanked for anything on Boards.

I know, I feel dirty reading it. Probably being in Ireland has been good for them though. :pac:

    Wait a minute.
When President Ford died last year in the USA, they declared a day of mourning so they got a day off work

How come we didn't get a day off work for President Hillary? :(

Oh, fair play to the US Embassy

It's strange though, because they are the one country that has actually consistently been good to us (with investment, political support etc). And they are far more respectful to us than our small size suggests they should be.

I think the problem is that for the last eight years they've had a gob****e for president, so people have forgotten all this.

No. Consider this the follow up to all those other ones.

When I was about 7, he opened a housing project for older people near my school. I misread the plaque, thinking it said Presdent Hitler opened it.

    Nice to hear that.

Still am I alone in being cynical enough to have a quick peak on breaking news to see if something has befallen America at home?

Seconded, for all their misguided ideas they have always treated Ireland quite well.

The investment has more to do with Corp. Tax, Location, skills, speaking English though.

Totally agree here. It is funny how one person can make such a difference. Mind you it was the nation that voted him in.... Twice.....

Yeah absolutely. There are plenty of good things about America - look how much of a haven it was for immigrants. A very good book that urges people to remember these things is American Pastoral by Philip Roth.

The irony. Hillery wasn't voted in at all. :)
