Drooled over one of these recently and had to try really hard to hold off on buying it right there and then. Even better, Misco has them around €70 cheaper than anywhere else!

It's a HDTV, Monitor, AV input, has hdmi, cable, component, scart, vga and dvi connections as well as a remote control AND a wonderfully subtle yet sophisticated touch-sensitive on-off non-button :)

    linky

    yum! :D

    It is what it's.

Fuppin' hell that thing is nice!

I have my upstairs (14") telly, PC and Xbox all together - I'm trying hard to think of a reason not to get this to tie them all in!!!

    €364 on Pixmania.

I've got the 225md version (built in digital tuner). Great monitor if you want a monitor with lots of different inputs. PQ from Sky box through scart is great and the same goes for channels available on DTT. PS3 through HDMI is also very good. Note the panel in the 225md is different to the one used in the 225mw. hotukdeals.com had a post about the 225md been sold for £225 sterling a while back.

Edit: the place doing the sm225md is ukdvdr.co.uk for £240 inc. delivery - less than €310 on your credit card.:
    http://www.ukdvdr.co.uk/shop/Samsung-SyncMaster-Widescreen-SM225MD-LCD-Monitor-TV-pr-43498.html

However they give the spec for the sm225mw, not the sm225md which would leave me unsure about the deal.

Are you based in Ireland or the UK (digital tuner)? Which panel is better, is this the a/b/c difference?

Well, I'll let you know how I get on with the 225mw when it arrives!
    (Hopefully before le weekend).

It seems to have an input for everything I'm likely to want to stick in it. ;)

    Thanks, oneweb.

Problems with refurbs though it could have been returned due to dead pixels or backlight leakage, I wouldn't risk it even if the price is tempting

oneweb, I'm out in Greystones. I was surprised to get such good picture with the digital tuner as DTT reception out this far is borderline (or at least I thought it was).

The 225MD has a different spec namely Brightness : 400cd/m2, Contrast Ratio : 1,000:1 as oppose to the 225MW corresponding levels of 300 and 700. The 225MD has a glossy monitor and includes an optical out port.

A couple of posters in different forums who got to compare the monitors side by side said the 225MD panel was far better, but I can't confirm this myself.

I called Misco to find out more and asked how many they had in stock. According to the guy I spoke with, they have 83 in stock which would make me think they mightn't have passed Quality Control at the factory? A figurer that high could hardly be a result of customer returns, surely?

I hate glossy screens tho, and would probably hold off on the DTT for now. Thanks butts ;)

yeah that sounds dodgy alright, don't know how much say a dead pixel would bother you but they wreck my head, bought a Samsung 22" monitor (2232bw) recently in PC World and had to take it back that evening due to a stuck pixel, once I spotted it had to return it, made them take out the replacement and checked it for me there and then. imagine the cost and hassle of returning it to the UK.

It's a pretty nice monitor, got it in Argos for €350 new around Christmas, pretty sweet deal imo came with a 3 yr manufacture warranty and all.

The only thing to keep in mind when purchasing it is that it is a monitor and thus has a 16:10 native resolution which makes picture look a little stretched if you are doing 16:9 but maybe i am just picky. Also the sound quality is not that great but i do have wooden floors as well so that can't help!

butts, forgive my naivete but the Digital tuner isn't backwards compatible with analog, am i right?

thedon, was it on clearance at that price? They don't seem to have either the 225mw or 225md in stock now :(

    It is what it's.

TheDonMan, the nice thing about both these Samsungs is that you can set the size to 16:9 on all inputs except DVI. There are also many other size settings. Scaling is something I'm particular about which is what steered me towards the Samsung and away from a couple of similar LG models. Proper scaling combined with acceptance of 1080p over HDMI means PS3 looks great for games and films.

oneweb, it also includes an analogue tuner using the same connection to your antenna with a button on the remote allowing you to toggle between analogue and digital. As is the case with most of these combo monitors, analogue from antenna doesn't look great, hence the attraction of the digital tuner.

€274 is a great price for the 225MD, if it's in perfect condition. Would highly recommend it at that price.

Set up the monitor last night.
Still need to tidy some stuff and play with settings but very happy with the results.
PC looks good and the Xbox looks great. The TV picture quality (from basic NTL wall cable) is so-so. I need to manual tune it tonight.

The picture in picture (as per below) is really useful given the different inputs.

No dead pixels I could see, and no complaints at that price. :)

Daft question, but could this be used as a TV and not a monitor?

It's both, so yes, you can use it as a telly.

I decided to try this monitor 225mw or 225md. Can anybody recomend where to buy it? Even the refurbished version would be ok... Thanks
