Ok, I have decided on getting the 40D. Should I just get the body and spend the rest of my money on a good lense or two rather than getting the kit lense + another.

Just to clarify it's a 40d and not a 400d right? What lenses did you have in mind? The kit lens can be handy to get you started, i can only go on what the 350d/400d kits lens is like and it was, well, mediocre, when you use it at it's widest i found the image wasn't as sharp as my current lens (EF 28-135mm) but it was fine for starting out.
    EDIT: Woooooo 700 posts!....

I've been thinking something similar since I'm pondering a 40D as well. I dont mean to hijack the thread but perhaps I can narrow the question a little?

Is the 40D kit lens worth the money? I have a couple of sigma lenses (10-20, 18-200 OS) and a canon 1.8 50mm. Would the kit lens be redundant or a better piece of glass that I would prefer to use?

Or another way of looking at it is if someone was starting out would they be better off buying the body only and putting the money towards another lens say something like the Sigma 18-200 OS?

If you want to sell it on again it is handy to have the kit lens (So I've heard) depends on the price I suppose I got a 400d before christmas and I just bought the body and a 50mm lens. you'll have to do the math on how much extra the kit lens is and see how much you are saving by not getting it or ask the seller if they will do you a deal on a better lens when you are buying the body.
