    That's like asking what's the difference between an apple and a tomatoe. They're both fruit, but very different.

    The modems themselves are not comparable at all, completely different technology. The services you'll get from eircom DSL and one of the 3G providers will also differ greatly.

    3G has limited capability for gaming (ping tends to vary wildly), the speeds are highly variable and dependent on weather conditions, number of people connecting in the same sector, distance from the mast, etc. DSL has limitations too relating to distance from exchange (though you'll always be at a fixed distance), number of users (contention), but they're not usually as apparent as when using 3G.

    Also, 3G isn't really broadband. DSL is.
