Camino + Gmail argh

Anyone using Gmail through Camino? I never had a problem with it before but for about 10 ten days now it just will not work. Gmail keeps re-loading the main page and never actually displays any content. Its working perfectly in Safari and FF. I have update Camino, and done all the usual clean out steps, but no joy. Im guessing Google have made some changes, anyone else using this combination?

I don't really use Camino anymore but I fired it up there and gmail worked fine. Did you try creating a new user account and testing it? Might narrow it down a bit.

Sounds like a cookie problem though, happens to me with Hotmail all the time.

Yeah have tested it under my other user and its the same. Very annoying. Its forced me to use Safari, and im starting to like it! Goddammit :pac:

I made the Camino->Safari switch a while ago and I doubt I would go back...

    He's not the only one 440 :p

But I do keep Camino as a 'backup' browser and out of the goodness of my heart I checked Gmail for you using it. 1.6b4 works no problem for me. What version are you using?

Bah, I the main reason I switched back to Safari was because Camino looked so ugly under Leopard. I'm so shallow. :D

I still hate Safari but I ain't switching again so we're stuck with each other.

Weird problem, 440Hz. Stab in the dark but maybe it's just that account? Try creating a new gmail account and see.

I dunno, I've had some weird problems with gmail in the past though.

A bit OT...and excuse me if I come across as ignorant....but how can someone disike safari camino etc?

You type in the wed address, hit enter and get the website. Other features include bookmarks and auto form completion etc....all of which most browsers do...

So my point is what do you guys need from a browser that can make you prefer some strongly over others?

    Cheers

Safari3 is excellent. Switching to any web browser will take some adjusting, but I love my Safari.

Compliance with web standards / correct display of web pages
    Speed / memory footprint.
    Tabbed browsing.
    Good keyboard shortcuts.
Extensions (the reason I still have firefox installed).

At the moment I am using safari 3 as my main browser, but the new firefox 3 is a lot better on the mac then firefox 2. I just really like the polish on safari.

The reason I and many other people didn't like safari before was the lack of tabbed browsing.

Well said Truckie, they are probably the primary reasons for most people's preference. As for my Camino love - I started using Camino in the beginning when Safari was crap, Firefox was barely heard of and most people were still happy with Netscape Navigator or god forbid IE. So I picked it then and have watched it develop. There are so many things I really love about it, its simplicity and stability, the look-and-feel (I really miss having the website icon display next to the text in the tab, not in Safari), etc. These days though, most browsers are on par feature wise, so its just what you are used to more than anything.

I guess Safari is my primary browser (now), but Camino is still always open. I keep FF installed for tested and StumbleUpon, plus the occasional Greasemonkey script.

I dare ya . . . no . . . I double dare ya to go to the Soccer forum and ask why everyone supports/likes different teams. After all they all have 11 players, wear shorts 'n boots and kick a round ball around the pitch - what's the difference. After the abuse come back here and we'll nurse you back to health.

There have been crusades here to promote various browsers over the years. On one hand there's the converted XW'ers who can't leave Firefox behind or don't understand that there is an alternative to IE5 !!

Then there's the hacks - 440Hz included here - who want it to be Mac flavoured but fizzy, hence Camino.

The rest of us who think like you can't understand what all the fuss is about and just use what came in the box - Vanilla flavoured if you will - and can see no reason to try anything else !!

Me ? I just odd - or simply a whore - I've tried them all but still prefer the clean-cut lines of Safari over the bloat of Firefox or the quirkiness of Camino.

Katie, clear all your gmail related cookies... I had the same issue with gmail in FF once and clearing my cookies/cache fixed it right up.

    PS FF3b5 rawks :P hehehe

Tried that too, but good suggestion. In the end I dumped Camino, and all related files, reinstalled and it seems to be working now. Very odd. Just one of those things it seems.

Glad you got it working, even if you had to go the extreme route.

For the record I prefer Safari because the Safari Stand plugin lets me selectively block Flash on particular websites (or selectively unblock Flash really). Oh, and the dragable tabs. Other than that I'd be on Camino.

No offence....but thats a rather silly analogy.

No offence but I can understand why you'd think that.

The point is I like the characteristics of my preferred browser/application/team to whatever your preferred browser/application/team is. We each like things a certain way and when we find something that gives it to us in that way - well - we tend to stick with it.
