To clarify, youre trying to open up an ASD unit. Id say your best bet would be to ring schools who have a unit already, theyd have the best answers for ya. PM if ya want a couple of names. I suppose you have to consider the advantages for the child with ASD, the school itself and for the other pupils. I mean the advantages for the child with ASD are fairly obvious as in it gives the child a good social peer group to copy from as well as the language development and to observe and if theyre able so that they can integrate into the mainstream class at small intervals and then gradually increasing, it gives the child the ability to see a mainstream school witha yard and breaktime and even just the volumes of children attending which a child would need to get used to to be able to function in the "outside world". FOr the school it would increase their knowledge of learning difficulties and provide onsite professionals who would be able to offer advice on children with the mainstream shcool as well as providing the mainstream teachers with knowledge on any difficulties a "mainstream" child may have, whether it be language, social, behavioral.
