    hey ..

Im going unreg for this as it doesnt put the best light on me really.

Now, I know the majority of you are going to say "just do it!"...but i dont see it as simple as that.

Im in the situation of having to provide 6,500 words worth of assignments by the end of next week (purely due to procrastination....so im only to fault)

Im asking what is the best way about doing this?...I have to balence it with normal college work too (not neccessarily going in everyday) and dont neccessarily think ill be getting much sleep..

Its just this situation makes me panic..and I could be pacing back and forth for an hour not realising the time passing...

These assignments need to be in or I fail...

Im not looking for miracles..just some guidence to furfil my time the best way I can..

    thanks :)

i tend to put things off too in college. All i can say is divide it up and make a schedule for writing it. Maybe you could talk to your course coordinator or lecturer and get an extension of a couple of days.

Get into the campus for a start. I find the location in itself gets me geared up to work. Too many distractions at home.

The only reason sleep is so hard is because at the end of the night you still have anxiety over how little work you did that day/how much work you have left.

essays are easy because they have a simple structure. Try lining out bullet/talking points and then elaborate on those in iterations until each becomes a paragraph from a few lines at a time.

Like Overheal said, get yourself into campus, a library or just a cafe.
Somewhere where you can't go online or watch telly.

    Thanks overheal,

I wont be able to get an extension as this is the second handup date that they allow you, ive had essay probs before so I doubt they would be sympathetic in my case.

you really hit the nail on the head with the feeling like you got nothing done/going to be anxcious as Ive felt that last year (I find it hard to learn from my mistakes!!)

Another good point was the bullit pointing, Im going to split up the assignments to half done by saturday night, and the other half to be finished by thursday

Im just worried, that my worrying and anxciousness will heed me in my process..

Break them up into small pieces. Make a to-do list that's really detailed. Schedule plenty of breaks too. Something like:

    10-10.45: Write essay intro
    10.45-11: Break
11-11.45: Write 250 words for main body of essay
    11.45-12: Break

And so on. Break it up into manageable chunks and it'll seem less overwhelming.

    thanks for that faith...

I know that if I dont use structure it will be 10 times as hard....

2 of the assignments are easier than the other 2, some people say start with the harder ones...

but...I think if I start with the easier ones...it will get me into the studying mindset?..and continue that throughout the next week?

But of course; thats why I went to sleep at 5 this morning :D staring in front of a project, half-exhausted and numb, only to be distracted anyway, causing me to miss a day of classes. I have an assessment tomorrow and a project due both on friday (havent started!) and monday (being a ****). Not all is lost though because you can still roll into campus in the evening, plenty of hours before close (which in my case is 10) and get a lot of work done.

The other thing i didnt do right today was re-scramble my password: stopping me from signing on anywhere but home :pac: I lost an hour tonight reading the lolcat thread..

Angst and Worry are going to impede your progress if you let them. Best advice is to first guard yourself against distractions, then do what has to be done. Don't worry so much about the end result when you are just starting out.

Start with whatever tickles you best. But dont forget to prioritise by date.

6,500 divided into a couple of assignments is actually very little OP.

Any assignments I had I always divided them into:

Introduction (outlining what you will be covering in Body of Essay)
Body of Essay (divided into 3/4 parts)
Conclusion (going over main points in Body of Essay and wrapping it up)

So that essentially is 5 or 6 sections, so for a 2,000 word assignment that means each section is a mere 3-400 words, very little when you think about it.

If you keep telling yourself you have 6,500 words you will drive yourself around the twist. Do the assignments one at a time in bitesize chunks and you should have it all done by this weekend. Once you start you will be on a roll so try and get the Intro to one of them done asap and you will be fine.

    Thanks miss fluff...

    they are 2 x 2000's , 1 x 1,500, 1 x 1000

I'd like to think i'd get them all by the end of the weekend....but at the most I'll get 3 done...

Theres probably more research time involved more than writing, as my use of vocabulary is very good and articulate at the best of times so once I have the facts/quotes the rest will follow.

I wouldn't consider myself an organised person at the best of times so this is why I needed some advice :)

There are always gonna be times you'll need to push your body to the limit...dinners out of vending machines, 20 cups of coffee to keep you awake....we've all been there.

i find once you start, you'll be suprised how easy it is!

    good luck!

I feel for you. But listen, last sunday I had 2 assignments due in by the next day, they were both 3500 words each, a little more than yours but pretty close me thinks ;) Sit down at your computer, get the books you need from the library/find info on internet and start typing. If you get tired drink coffee and red bull. Who cares about getting little sleep-a few less hours of sleep is a hell of a lot better than repeating the year/sitting exams during the summer. And you'll be really pleased with yourself when your finished. So go on, make us proud ;)

Sleep less and you'll have no problem getting 6,500 words down, but not necessarily good words in ordered sentences that form anything coherent.

Time to man up and stop freaking out.

For whatever reason you've backed yourself intoa corner by not handing in assignments on time, and now you have a two week deadline looming.

Look at like this, by now you're either going to pass or fail, you can't make thigns any worse.

My advice is to become a hermit until the deadline, two weeks is plenty of time to get 6,500 words worth of assignments done if you really get stuck in.

I would start off with the ones that I was most confident about, but during the writing of these I would also research the harder ones.

Getting 6,500 words done in 2 weeks is nothing.

Go help us, do you have to do an FYP or anything like that between 15000 to 20000 words?

In my opinion you are either:

    1. very lazy person

    2. clever enough person but likes to get people to clear up your mess for you

    3. not as interested as you think in the college course that you chose and now cannot get motivated to do anything

    4. dont care / not bothered

    5. not very clever
