Anyone know if it's possible to share an internet connection between an o2 3G modem with a PS3 through a mac? Just moved from windows, and haven't got a clue how to do it on either. Does it involve AirPort?

So the modem is physically connected to the mac and you want to wireless share that connection (via the mac) with the ps3, right?

You need to turn on Internet Sharing, it's in System Prefs > Sharing > Internet Sharing. The settings here are fairly straight forward, just make sure you click on "Airport options" and set up your network name, security, etc. Airport will have to switched on as well of course.

I don't have any experience with the ps3 so I don't know what the settings are on that side.

However I suspect you'll run into the same NAT problems I had when trying to share my imac's connection my 360. OSX's internet sharing works by acting as a virtual NAT router however it's quite limited and unlike a real router it has no option for opening the ports needed for online multiplayer. So you'll probably be able to connect and browse the web via your ps3 but little else.

There are definitely ways around this but it requires opening the necessary ports via terminal or a 3rd party app which can be a terrible pain in the arse unless you're able to find a decent guide. I wish I could help more but I don't know anything about the ps3. When I was trying to do this with my 360 all I came across was people with the same problem but maybe there's a decent guide out there for doing this with a ps3.

Lots of people do this using ICS (internet connection sharing) on the PC they have minor issues (involving NAT and firewall) as Sad Prof said it's fairly easy on mac using the internet sharing option, you could set up a wireless network using your airport and share that but I'd be inclined to share the ethernet port, although I have never shared the airport I'm sure it would be rock solid, you may experience latency issues though so be careful.

One other thing, I'm a fairly heavy 360 user and I throw on average around 5gb or more monthly over xbox live, in the last 7 days I've had 2.7g of data up and down (no downloading just email) so you may be looking at a huge cost if you run over the allocated bandwidth usage.
