    Hi
I am staying in Dublin at the moment (am from UK), and will be here till August, and just receieved a letter through the post from POST regarding TV License ( I had assumed this was covered by the landlord as Cable is still in her Name), as I am only here for another 4 months, is there such a thing as TV License on monthly basis or 6 monthly basis, as Its a waste of money payin 160 euros for the year, when I will be leavin in 4 months

    Thanks

    Sean

Try and strike a deal with your landlady for the 4 months, she can then charge the remainder to whoever takes your place. It is your responsibility though unfortunately.

What exactly did the letter from an Post say?

Yeah u can pay for your tv licence on a monthly basis if you like. Just pop into your nearest post office and they will sort you.
I know this is possible because i paid mine off monthly for a few months caus i didnt have the cash to hand out for a full year.

Letter said, they have noticed the address is not covered by TV License ( was addressed to the Occupier and not any previous Tennant), and that Flat could be subject to inspection and fine and prosecution if TV is found on premisis without a current license. And to Ignore the Letter if License has been paid in last 10 days. Ive been in the flat for 2 months, and this was 1st letter I got.

You could always sit it out and if they come pay it. If there isn't a precedent you might be ok.

That's probably what I would do.

Sit it out.. you won't end up in court in four months. They'll send another letter and another. Then they'll call and may eventually get you in one night. Then they'll send another letter and another.. Seriously, sit it out.

Edited to add.. if you live in an apartment block they may never get to your door and therefore never get your name

    Cry me a river OP!

I always pay my tv licence no matter what the circumstances. It's the right thing to do, helps to keep this banana republic afloat and most importantly it makes me more attractive to 19 year old female office temps whose opinion I value highly.

She bases how attractive you are on whether you do things such as pay your TV licence?

Ive not got a TV licence (I appeal to the rebel side of said 19 year old female office temps), ive only just moved and ive not had the chance to get one yet, but I might wait it out until I start earning money and get more then just RTE 2.

160 is alot of money for 4 months. Have a word with the landlord, if theyre anyway sound they might cut you a deal, or just sit it out. But im really just repeating whats been said.

Each and every licence fee payer out there is putting a shiny 50cent coin in Pat Kennys pocket every year. That's reason enough not to pay it.

i would make the landlord pay it, its only E160 and you are only responsible for abot E80, tell her to suck it up and take into consideration the amount of rent you are paying.

Pay your TV licence, all the money goes towards builing schools and homes for the homeless...

At home you pay for a TV licence, It supports the BBC and is advertising free, if the bbc started advertising constantly would you feel a bit ripped off as you know right well there making huge sums of money from the advertising.......

Right a letter to the Irish Independent (copy in the tv licence headquarters in donnybrook) and tell them you think the people of Ireland are being ripped off.....

If you go to jail on that principal i will help launch a campaing to get you freed.....

any boardies back me up here:rolleyes:

I get about 3 hours of time in the evening and with only RTE2 I dont spend much of that time watching TV.

i moved into an apartment recently and the tv license is covered. i only have rte 1, 2, tv3, tg4, bbc 1, 2 and thats it. i watch the tv a bit but mostly stick to dvds. i cant imagine paying 160, about 13 euro a month for the crap rte expect me to watch. how low can you go? des bishop? the hollywood thing? the victoria bekham "reality" show? that **** isnt worth 2 euro a month. plus i have to watch ads. good old bbc. and im irish btw.

Pay your TV licence so RTE can squander it on sub standard programming. Where is the quality control with our state broadcaster? If you are forced to pay a fee, the very least is that all the licence fee payers have some say in what is broadcast..no?? Time after time we see embarrassingly bad home produced rubbish

If you have a TV you must have a licence. Thread Closed.
